The room was spacious and clean with air conditioning, very hot shower with strong water pressure, and a mini fridge. Staff were very helpful despite my petit peu French. I walked over to the mall area several times to get food at the Casino supermarket and wine from the shop a few doors down from it. An easy and pretty walk along the marina. New Caledonia does not do e-SIM cards it seems so I went to Lagoon in that mall and was able to buy a regular SIM card and from a shop also in the mall I bought an android phone to put it in. (Turns out my iPhone does not have a SIM card holder!) Lemon Bay became a place of familiarity and comfort once I got out and walked it. I highly recommend eating at Le Bar de La Plage (I couldn’t find it on Google to be able to give a rave review the staff and Tuna Trio deserve) but it is easy to find when walking along the bay and close to Single Fin which was also good. The Aquarium was nice to walk around for a couple of hours and see and learn about the local sea life. (Pro tip: turtle feeding is at 3:45pm and they close at 6pm). I enjoyed a nice somewhat long but easy walk with great views of the water the whole way from the hotel to Anse Vata to watch the kitesfurfers then back for sunset. There is a bar and club (MV lounge and R Bar?) at the end of the road which were both perfect for sunset. At the restaurant you may be lucky to grab a couch and table in the sand and I highly recommend the Italian pizza (seems wrong when in France haha but the servers talked it up so I tried it and I wish I’d discovered it sooner in my stay as I would’ve gone back again for it!). Best pizza I’ve had in a long time! At the club up top they have delicious and picture-worthy cocktails and a great rooftop view of the beach and sunset. I read in other reviews some negatives like street noise and I did notice that at 3am one of the days but I closed my windows and turned the AC on and went back to sleep. They were not out there long anyway. The club downstairs didn’t seem to be open so it was just people on the street. I ended up extending my stay a couple of times and then requested for housekeeping to freshen up the sheets and take out the rubbish which was accommodated before I got back from my supermarket walk! A big thank you to Violet and Luis (and another woman I am so sorry I forgot her name) who were kind and helpful answering my many questions as I was a fish out of water in the first few days. I felt like a local more and more each day with their guidance. There is no public transport in Noumea so for the airport they can book a shuttle for you (I think 3500?) and on the Arc de Ciel website I believe it is 2500. Taxis charge 8500! I used the private hire service they recommended for getting to places like Tjibaou and the port and the driver Antony had a clean spacious Subaru SUV and was available when I needed him and kept in good communication for pickups. I can’t speak for the other rooms and price ranges but I booked what they had available with my last minute planning via the Agoda app and it worked out to $70-80 USD per night for my own room and bathroom on the third floor with a surprise partial ocean view.

The first time, I booked a two-night stay through the website. The second time, I returned to pay for an additional night at the front desk. There's a kitchen downstairs where I cook and share with the staff. Due to the proximity to the beach and good service, the third time, I decided to pay at the front desk for a week's stay in the female-only dorm (repeatedly confirming that only females were charged). However, to my surprise just now, as I was already in bed, a man swiped his card and entered, claiming to have a room key for the female dorm... Despite having a phone in the room, I didn't receive any notification from the front desk, which I find quite baffling... Some suggest avoiding the loud music downstairs on weekends, but the weekday quiet is acceptable. However, experiencing this situation for the third time, where a male guest is allowed into the female dorm without notice, feels very inappropriate... Sigh.
