Sea Breeze

The location is great, although currently opposite a building site. We came to visit friends and relatives. The place was reasonably clean, except there were food crumbs in the drawers and on top of the toaster and the pots and pans are cheap old, sticky and scratched. There was a hair ball on the living room floor. Owner replies relatively quickly when you have queries but instructions instead would be better than having to message. Booking was easy through Booking.com, via Sykes Cottages via Basalt Breaks which is the owners business.

This place is a health and safety nightmare. It took us ages to get in because the electronic door was broken. After 10 minutes trying different variations I messaged the owner from Basalt Breaks, she replied over 20 minutes later and I used an emergency key from a lockbox nearby. You can see many other reviews mention this and they clearly don't care to fix it. When I finally opened the door, I was hit with a putrid wave of oil fumes. We slept the whole night with the windows and doors jammed open despite the cold, but the smell was pervasive. The owner (who was not nearby and offered to come have a look at the key problem two days later) said it had never happened before, which is not true if you look at other reviews. Also there are windows that have a gap jammed in place at the top, no doubt to try to air the fumes surreptitiously. The owner also told me when I enquired that she did not have a carbon monoxide detector because she wasn’t required to! A local plumber told us otherwise. We all felt ill with headaches and nausea, as did our local relative who visited for 2 hrs. We left the next night, 3 nights early and the owner promised us she would refund us, but once we had left, she refused. Neither Booking.com nor Sykes Cottages could help us because it is a "health and safety issue" and the money would need to be paid back by her insurance. They asked us to provide a doctor’s certificate which we didn’t have because once we had left the property for a few hours we felt better. There are bad reviews on other sites which I should have listened to, including the cheaper place downstairs which they offered us as recompense called "Beachcomber". The boiler is attached to this also so we said no and had to rebook another two places. A cheap do-up with no care or responsibility taken. Lost 808 pounds. All my other reviews have been over 9 stars, but this one...There are many great places in Ballycastle for cheaper or the same price.

Fantastic location close to the beach and town centre. Very spacious flat, and we loved the fact there were 3 ensuites. Well equipped and amazing views. Highly recommended as a base for a trip to beautiful Ballycastle and the North coast of Ireland.

Beds comfortable, convenient for the excellent bakeries and beach, parking was good.

9 digit door code was awkward to remember. Stairs - steep and narrow, TV channels limited, broadband intermittent, only just enough crockery & cutlery for one meal- which would’ve meant running the dishwasher after every meal.

You won't get many better locations in Ballycastle. It's right in between the main town area and the beach front. The property itself is really nice and recently renovated. It's very well appointed and nicely laid out. Parking is also great.

The only main issue was that the internet speed wasn't good enough to watch anything other than live TV even though the TVs have Netflix etc. Plus there was also a smell from the recent renovations (white spirit at the bottom of the stairs, which was very strong).
