Phum Khmer Lodge - Siem Reap Eco-Lodge

I have stayed at many "experience" hotels around the world, and the Phum Khmer is high on the list. Spent three nights at the Phum Khmer Lodge in April. The staff is incredible. They were always friendly and cared about providing a excellent experience. From the moment we arrived, until we left, they were always there to ask how our stay was and if we needed anything. They always were there with care and a smile on their face and a cold towel for your face. They really care about representing Cambodia well. The location is about 2km from Pub Street. This was a positive to us, as we wanted a more quiet stay. The hotel could quickly get a tuk tuk to take you to the center and easy to get one back for a dollar or two and a short ride. For us that was a trade we were happy to make. We chose the lodge because of their model of taking authentic homes from around the country. We stayed in a house that was a school for shoemaking if I understood correctly. It has a more modern interior than other rooms, but it was a great compromise between an authentic exterior and a more modern interior. It is still minimalist and decorated with a traditional Cambodian style without overdoing it. Very well done! I would have been very interested to stay in a more authentic one as well. The air conditioner struggled to keep up with the large space, but we were there at the hottest period of the year. The staff was very responsive in trying to make sure the room was cool. The site is like a little village with the pool in the middle. The garden is very dense, which helps keep it cool and really makes you feel like you are in a jungle village rather than in a large town. They have an onsite massage room which was a stand alone bungalow which offered an intimate, unique experience. The therapists were excellent. Highly recommended and would stay here again if I was back in Siem Reap.

The staff are so helpful and friendly, the hotel provides great services and so thoughtful. The location is really close to the center, the hotel also offers a one way trip to the central for free. Overall this is a great experience

Positive : staff is very friendly and helpful. They are not good in English but do their best to communicate. The room is clean and spacious. The room looks like a wooden house traditional build. But they have used partly concrete and partly wood . Amenities are good. Have bathrobe, tooth brush, paste hair dryer etc. Have room service for reasonable cost and the food was not bad. Alcohol is cheaper if bought in supermarkets nearby. Location wise too far from city centre. Not advisable to walk in hot Cambodian weather. Swimming pool is small with a mini bar on the side. Cambodian weather is too hot. So the Air-conditioning takes very long to cool down the room. Try requesting the staff to switch on the air-conditioning 5 hours before check in. So when you reach you will be able to relax for some time before heading out somewhere. I wish they had another fan in the bedroom like in the living room helps us reduce the Aircon usage and help regular air circulation and optimum temperature and humidity in the room. Cambodia use local curry riel and us dollar. So if you are not careful enough there are chances they will decive you will end up paying more than actual. Personally will recommend some hotel near city centre like Park Hyatt. as it's close to eateries and massage and cafes.
