Two security cameras are located on the exterior of the home, facing away from the residence. One is near the front door and one is near the back garage door. Shingleton is a great base for exploring some of the best off-road vehicle (ORV) and multi-use trails in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Most trails require a valid Michigan ORV license and trail permit — be sure to check signage and regulations before riding.

Haywire Grade Trail
• A scenic multi-use trail that stretches about 32 miles between Manistique and Shingleton along a former rail line.
• This trail’s surface is a mix of sand, gravel, and coarse limestone, ideal for ORVs, fat-tire bikes, hiking, and snowmobiling in winter.
• Several trailheads are near Shingleton; some parking areas are located near local landmarks and businesses.

Forest Roads & ORV Routes
• The area around Shingleton and neighboring Forest Roads (like routes mapped by the Michigan DNR) offers multiple ORV routes, including scenic rides through Hiawatha National Forest and surrounding woodlands.
• These routes connect forest roads and public lands popular with ATV, side-by-side, and dirt-bike riders.

Additional Trail Riding Options
• Nearby trails and forest service roads provide varied terrain and experiences, from open forest roads to winding two-track trails through pine and hardwood forest.
• Some trails intersect or connect loops that are great for planning half-day or full-day rides.

🛠️ Tips for ORV Riders
• Always ride on designated trails only and obey posted speed and safety signs.
• Michigan ORV licenses and permits are required for most public trails.
• Bring water, snacks, a basic repair kit, and a trail map (digital or paper).
• Cell service may be limited in forested areas — plan accordingly.

📍 Helpful Nearby Shops & Resources
• Local powersports dealers provide maps, permits, and trail updates (e.g., Munising-area resources with trail maps and current conditions).

The place was great! I do agree with the comment that pictures don’t do it justice. Super cute and everything was labeled and well thought out. The breakfast down the road at the bear trap inn was good too. Will stay again if the opportunity arises.

Great host. Lots of amenities included. Home was in a nice location next to the Hiawatha Forest and convenient to both Pictured Rocks and Munising.

The place was very cute and very welcoming. I loved how they had things labeled everywhere so you knew where things were or what to do the pictures on the website. Don’t do it justice. It’s much cuter in person. We really enjoyed it. We were only there two days, but if we were to ever come back up that way, we would definitely stay there again And I’m gonna be telling my kids about it so that when they go up to go snowmobiling, hopefully they can stay there.
