Walking, cycling, fishing and water sports at Rutland Water are a 25 minute drive away, Geoff Hamilton’s glorious gardens at Barnsdale, Burghley House and horse trials, the quaint market town of Oakham, and Uppingham (home to the famous school) are all also a short drive and offer good days out as you explore the area. For those that enjoy fishing, there is your own private lake just 10 metres away. Shop and pub 2 miles.

My wife and I loved staying at Home Farm Cottage. It was lovely and clean and although small, was nice and cosy with sufficient space and facilities to comfortably accommodate two people. The views of the surrounding countryside was spectacular and added to a very relaxing stay to help recharge our batteries! The property is located right next to two lakes with a caravan site at the far end. If you are thinking of fishing, the near lake is too easy as it has a large stock of very hungry carp which will make a bee-line to you the minute you walk near to the bank. The lake further away is also well stocked with smaller carp up to 16 ozs and plenty of specimen Mirror, Common and Ghost carp which are more of a challenge but do make an appearance if you are patient. The only thing I would add to make the stay even better would be the inclusion of a washer/drier although I do appreciate space to accommodate this would be a challenge.
