Bishops Retreat

The property was stunning , everything that you would need. A beautiful huge bath , comfy beds and stunningly decorated . Very close to beach , shops , restaurants and local attractions .

Parking was a nightmare..and you have to be very fit to walk back from the sea front as it is very steep..the town itself is very run down and not pleasant at all.. would not recommend Ventnor.

We knew what to expect from Ventnor as we'd visited a couple of times before but only stayed with friends. This time we and another couple decided on self catering and this was brilliant. Spacious, airy and cool in the heat of the summer. Holly is an awesome host

Nothing to complain about at all except maybe the parking however, note that the car park at the bottom of the road is £20 for 48 hours which was more than enough for us. Don;t get back from the festival and expect to find an easy space at 2am! Take the car park and be done with it

What a cracking find! I've lived on the Island and until the week spent at Bishops Retreat had probably spent no more than 30 minutes of my life in Ventnor... what a shame to have missed this seaside town before now. Bishops Retreat has been converted at quite some expense with the roll top metal bath, the fitted and kitted out Kitchen and the lovely entrance lobby, perfect for muddy boots, sandy towels or rubbing down wet dogs! We found both bedrooms very comfortable and although chilly to start with the flat soon warmed up and stayed warm all week with the electric heaters on low when needed. Keeping the place clean (dog owners will understand) was all so easy with a quick brush and mop of the laminate when needed. Holly, our host made sure she provided all the information needed before arrival and although not needed, I am 100% sure she would have been only a message away! Thanks for the little treat on arrival Holly, hope to be back someday soon!

Nothing really, we had everything we needed and more and at an amazing price! Ah... Parking & Charging! Ventnor and to be honest the whole island is a bit of a nightmare for parking. On the occasions we didn't have a space outside Bishop's Retreat (quite often) we parked up in Trinity Road (no more than 10mins walk away) where we also had the option to pop some charge in the EV - Charging in Trinity Rd is a little odd, the charger has a dedicated space for one vehicle but outputs for 2 so a little pot-luck but we managed access OK when we needed it. There are also chargers located on the High Street (6 or so within the car park) but we found them all to be unresponsive (Apr 2026).
