Very helpfull stuff. Breakfast was nice.

On the first floor you hear all the night the movie from the stuff at the reception.

Super cheap and great value for money. Organised 2 tours for me. Allowed me to check in at 6am after overnight bus, and let me stay until 9pm for an overnight bus back to Lima

Toilet smelt a bit funny and bins often weren’t emptied in bathrooms

Montanero hostel is the perfect backpackers hostel. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the breakfast is excellent, the room is basic but everything you need and the bed very comfortable! The best shower I’ve had in Peru, VERY hot water (I actually had to run the cold tap which is unheard of, it was heaven!). The location is a bit out of the real centre (maybe a 10 minute walk) but there is a long strip of shops and restaurants very close with super cheap and excellent food (highly recommend chocochoco loco). Even if the price were higher this would be a great hostel but for the price, you could not find a better stay!

Good facilities - shared kitchen and common area.

This hostel has been under 3 names (avventura/montanero/andes) and we wonder if this is a way of trying to hide poor reviews from the past as we did not have a great time here. The service from staff was not great - we were put in the wrong room at the start of our stay and told we would get a discount but did not. The key to the door of this room clearly did not work but they got us into it eventually - only for us to be locked out later on in the week and they had to break into the room. We were then moved to a room we had reserved (with private bathroom) but told the toilet did not work. Later in the evening we were disturbed by staff trying to fix the toilet whilst we were trying to relax. There is a child living in the hostel that often screams at an unbearable level - this child was running around our bedroom whilst they tried to fix the toilet. Whilst the facilities are great - trying to cook/eat dinner with a screaming child around is not ideal. To top it off, we booked tours through the hostel but it was not made clear the prices of these, so we ended up spending more than we’d bargained for. We were also charged an additional fee for the room which we did not expect. Considering we were promised a discount at the start of the week and ended up paying far more at the end, we were not happy with the stay here whatsoever. Not a professional hostel.
