About this house rental
Relax in a beautiful mountain setting at this 4-season ski house within walking distance of the slopes at Otis Ridge Ski Area (the best ski area south of the Vermont border). In fact, the back-yard (actually a meadow full of wildlife and flowers) used to be part of the ski area and there are still remnants of the rope-tow on the edge of the property. The long-range views off the back porch are fantastic.
The space
This house has 3 bedrooms, , 4 beds, 2.5 baths, a pull-out couch in the living room, another pull-out couch and a pull-out ottoman in the walk-out basement, and an electric air mattress to sleep up to 8 people (no extra guest fee on the first 2 people of the group). There are large flat screen TV's in the living room, master bedroom, and the walk-out basement/game room (there's a shuffleboard table, darts, and chess/backgammon table down there). There's also a large deck with half of it covered and screened in. Enjoy a warm gas-fireplace in the living room, a real woodstove (with free wood) in the finished walk-out basement, or a soak in an outdoor 7-person Artesian Spas Grand Cayman hot tub with all the bells and whistles overlooking the meadow. If you're looking for relaxation, this place and the surrounding area can't be beat. Tons of great hiking, numerous lakes, and other attractions like the towns of Great Barrington, Lee, and Lennox (all about 20 minutes away), and popular attractions like Tanglewood, and Jacob's Pillow, just a short scenic drive away.

You will have access to all parts of the house, including a washer and dryer in the basement.
This house works best as a family retreat or a romantic getaway for couples. It does not work as a place to have large or loud parties as it is located within a quiet neighborhood and has new hard-wood floors. If you are considerate of other people's property, I would love to host your stay and share why my family grew up skiing Otis and why it is the best place to ski on a powder day, or just relax in nature any time of the year.

Excellent stays for our girls weekend. Plenty of beds for everyone that were very comfortable. Lots of common area space, big table so we could all eat together. Loved the natural lighting and view! Hot tub was great for relaxing at night. We would definitely return to this property again! I would also bring my family here as there is so much outdoor space for kids to run and play!

My small group had an extremely relaxing and enjoyable stay at our host's place in Otis. The landscape, property and surrounding area were all beautiful and peaceful. The hot tub and very cozy furnishings on every floor made this the ultimate fall retreat. Our host Lar's was so knowledgeable and communication was a breeze. We will absolutely be back for ski season!

We rented this VRBO for a short family getaway before our first grandchild arrival. Was looking for something big enough to house 6 adults comfortably and in a central location. Haven’t never been to the Berkshire before, this was a great find. Price was affordable and it literally 7-20 minutes from everything. Lars’ Otis home easily accommodated our group of 4 long-time friends, with plenty of sleeping and sitting options for all of us. The screened-in back porch was a lovely amenity, and it was delightful to descend the stairs each morning to the sun-drenched first floor. However, the stairs to the upstairs bedroom level and to the basement are narrower and more harrowing than typical stairs. The basement itself was a treat with a shuffleboard table, darts and other games. We could access the hot tub via the lower level, but it was difficult to release the ratcheting tie-downs to remove the cover, and it seemed like a lot of work to actually get in to enjoy it. I suppose that’s because Lars (or any guests, for that matter) would not want any critters accessing the hot tub! The beds were quite comfortable, but the bathrooms could use a bit of a refresh. The shower floors were a little moldy and the shower pressure was almost non-existent. Aside from the few issues mentioned, the home was a great place to stay to explore the Berkshires and enjoy a few days with great friends.
