About this house rental
The space:
Known by various names — La Rocca di Praia, Castello di Praia, Castello della Foresta, or Norman Castle — this historic building dates back to the Norman period (12th–13th century). Perched on a hill near Praia, it overlooks the sea, offering breathtaking panoramic views.
Originally built as a military structure to defend against raids by the Aragonese and Saracens, it was commissioned by Charles, Duke of Calabria, son of Robert, King of Naples. In the 16th century, it took on a feudal role and was used as a summer residence by the local bishop.
Towards the end of the 18th century, the Marquises Ajeta sold the castle to the Counts Spinelli of Scalea. Today, it is available as a high-end holiday rental.
