La Maison d’Helene & Antoine à Bonnieux XII siècle

Wow! To stay in a 12th Century house is incredible….to think about all that history! The rooms were spacious and it felt homey! It was right in the village so very close to everything! Great communication with the owners!

An unforgettable experience staying in a 12th-century house in one of our favorite villages in France. Full of charm and history — perfect for anyone who loves the vibes of Provence. Highly recommended!

Location

The description and photos do not correctly depict the stairs and the conditions of the space. Having the bedroom on the floor and toilet on the main floor is unacceptable. We were asked to strip sheets means, the duvet and pillow cases do not get changed. Odor in the shower room, previous guests dirty dishes and cobwebs in the kitchen where dishes were.

What an amazing maison. We loved living in a medieval bakery. Comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. The sitting room was perfect for relaxing with the family, the door to the toilet is amazing. Bonnieux is perfect for exploring the local area, we loved Lacoste and the gorge but it wasn't for the faint hearted. Views from the village are simply stunning. Brilliant shop 4 mins walk away with lots of fresh produce. Plenty of restaurants and bars.

We expected the stairs and were fine with them but some may struggle.

Comfortable spacious accommodation. Well equipped kitchen and laundry. Comfortable beds. Remained cool, even during a heat wave. Great location with restaurants, shops, and galleries very close. Free parking nearby, weekly market, wonderful views nearby, and good access (by car) to other towns and tourist attractions. Great, prompt communication with Helene and Antoine. We loved staying in a home with centuries of history, a fantastic experience.

Nothing, but stairs could be an issue for some. One bathroom and (separate) toilet, and bedrooms and living areas are not well lit, but we had no problems and loved our time here.

A truly authentic medeaval experience over 4 floors certrally located in Bonnieux. And that comes with all the pro and cons as already decribed very well in other reviews here.

This is a tricky one to rate, some great aspects but also some major issues in my opinion. On the plus side: - Room for up to six people in three bedrooms - Competitive price - Tons of equipment, including washing machine, fridge, freezer, dish washer and a complete kitchen equipment - Lots of towels - Walking distance to nice restaurants, free parking 5 mins away (uphill) - Nice location in the middle of a picturesque village, walk 5 mins for perfect photo spots of the valley below - No host on site, but very responsive when messaging via the App

On the negative side: - Can be outright dangerous for old people and small children - the house is spread over 4 levels with a winding stone staircase. Some of the steps are kept original and are uneven. There are no handrails either. One misstep could be your last one. Carrying luggage up there is no fun. - Poor air quality - There is an open basement with original walls, pretty much alike a cavern. The air coming from there smells old and musty and this affects the entire house to some extent. Reminded me a bit of a gothic church and is somewhat creepy. - Issues with the bedrooms: (1) Ground level: No windows at all, feel free to leave the front door open to get some fresh air :) Parts of the wall plasterwork are coming off, feels like snow falling on your bed. Not sure you'd want to inhale that. (2) Middle room (floor 3): One single window going to an air shaft only with barely any daylight coming in, no aircon, one large electric fan to stir the air a bit, however comfy beds. (3) Top room (floor 4): Has a door to a balcony and has air con, therefore best in terms of air quality. However, the mattresses are too big for the bed frames and thus sit on the frames rather than properly on the slatted frames - result: the mattresses are bent in a u-shape and simply uncomfortable to sleep on as you roll into the middle all the time. Long story short: Each of the rooms has issues. - No window and no electricity in the bathroom - The fridge, while big, does not cool properly despite running on the highest setting - Located directly at the main street going through the upper part of the village. The street is single lane one way (alternating traffic lights for one-way traffic uphill or downhill). Be quick when on- and offloading your luggage or carry it 5 mins uphill to the parking lot. Don´t expect patient locals while you offload six bags off your rental SUV ;)
