Thomsonite Inn on Lake Superior

My friend and I booked a room for a last-minute trip up north and we were very satisfied with our stay. We stayed in the quadruple room, which was spacious and had a large bathroom as well. The room was clean, and we had a lovely view of the lake from our living room. The kitchen was equipped with all utensils and cookware, which was perfect for making all our meals- do remember to bring cooking oil. The self-check-in process was easy and the place was quiet and it was nice to go down to the lakeshore for quiet and private access. Downtown Grand Marais was only 5 mins away by car to pickup groceries, have delicious fish at Angry Trout, a donut at world's best donuts, see a BEAUTIFUL sunrise/sunset at painter's point, and their visitor center gives great recommendations (as does the information booklet in the room).

If you prefer having staff there at all times, this may not be the best option for you, since this has more of a cabin/airbnb feel, however, I didn't need anything during my stay there, and the office was open on our last day. If you are travelling soon, be aware that campfires or the sauna may not be available due to forest fires.

Beautiful location with a lake view and privacy. Staff was friendly and checking in and out was easy.

Didn’t have a stovetop or oven in our room so we were limited slightly on meals to cook ourselves but they did have a charcoal grill.

Beautiful setting! Unfortunately we were there during the unhealthy smoke from wildfires. No fault of property staff. Accommodations were great!

Our view of the lake from our room was stunning! Loved the different places you could sit outside to enjoy the lake views.
