Omalos Village

We had a wonderful stay at Omalos Village and would happily come back. It is a beautiful, peaceful place surrounded by nature, with sheep wandering around the area adding to the authentic mountain atmosphere. One of the things we loved most was the cool, fresh air — even in August. The tranquillity and silence were exactly what we needed, and we slept incredibly well. The location is also excellent, especially if you are planning to visit Samaria Gorge, as it is very close to the entrance. We also made a trip to Elafonissi, which was around a two-hour drive away, making Omalos Village a great base for exploring this part of Crete. Breakfast was very nice, and our daughter especially enjoyed being able to try the swimming pool. The fact that the pool is covered at night was a lovely bonus and made it possible for her to enjoy it even in the evening.

The only minor negative was a slight musty smell coming from the kitchen cupboards, but this was really a very small issue and did not affect our stay. In fact, our biggest regret was simply that we only stayed for a few days. We would have loved to stay much longer and enjoy the peace, nature, fresh mountain air, sheep wandering around, and wonderful atmosphere of Omalos Village. Highly recommended!

Very clean with all the necessary appliances. The location to access the Gorges was excellent and the breakfast included was excellent. The pool was also very enjoyable.

Great location to start off and end the Samaria Gorge hike. We stayed here two nights to do the hike and it was a great choice as most hikers had to travel in and out from Chania or other far away places to do the hike. Beautiful area and spacious 2 bedroom house with a shared pool as well. Owners are personable and helpful that own the hotel next door. Breakfast is included at the hotel each morning which is very nice.

shower needs a bit of help as the divider glass that is supposed to keep the water in the tub doesn't do much and it just ends up on the floor. a flock of sheep are kept in the field next to the house which is kind of neat and adds to the feel of being in a remote village, but they all have bells on that make noise all night long. If you are a light sleeper this might be an issue.

A beautiful rustic villa, with private outdoor veranda and eating space. The pool and surrounding greenery were well maintained and set against a picturesque backdrop of the white mountains. The tavern/restaurant is only a 3 minute walk from the villa, and provided great dinners with home cooked, authentic Greek cuisine. Very friendly and accomodating staff - as we were without a car, the owner very kindly dropped us off at the Samaria Gorge National Park entrance in his car at 7am!
