About this cottage rental
Alfie's Cottage is a home away from home. It is fully equipped with a full oven, fridge/ freezer and washing machine so that you can get settled and cook your own meals whilst also enjoying the wonderful restaurants, wine farms and golf courses on offer close by. There are mountain views out of the cottage windows of the magnificent Hottentots Holland nature reserve and we are very near to the Erinvale golf course and the Lourensford, Vergelegen and Morgenster wine farms. Alfie's Cottage borders the nature reserve and we are based on a road loved by walkers and mountain bikers for its incredible views of the mountains and reservoir. The cottage has barbeque facilities and a private patio to enjoy sundowners after a day out.

What can I say about this place – it is AMAZING!We stayed here for 8 days in November 2025 at the end of our Garden Route journey celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and my wife’s birthday.We found this property on Vrbo, having seen other people’s reviews, and we weren’t disappointed.Situated on the outskirts of Somerset West, near the Helderberg Nature reserve, it’s a beautiful location, and perfectly situated for wine-tasting in the local area.Our hosts were Jen and Charles Niehaus, who made sure our stay was exceptional.The cottage has all the facilities you need. A large lounge area with a smart TV and DSTV box. The kitchen had everything we needed – microwave, gas hob, electric oven, fridge freezer, washing machine, filter coffee machine (and complimentary locally roasted coffee) and plenty of storage. The bedroom was spacious with plenty of clothes storage. The bathroom had a great shower. Outside the lounge French doors, there was a nice patio with seats and a parasol.The one thing that made this place very special was our hosts – Jen and Charles. They are such nice people, and so helpful. Jen gave us some great recommendations for restaurants and wine estates, and Charles helped resolve a flat battery on our rental car (I’d left the side lights on overnight!!)We’ll definitely be staying here again when we’re next in Cape Town.Thank you, Jen and Charles for making our stay very special.

Nice little cottage, opposite the water reservoir. The cottage is equipped with anything you need for your stay. The view to the Helderberg mountain are spectacular.
