Dalhousie Heritage Cottage

The period property with good period features and furniture. very clean throughout with helpful caretaker who provided a basic breakfast. on site site parking availability and separate lodgings and breakfast for driver provided (for a small fee). electric blankets and room heaters provided making the rooms cosy and comfortable

no conveniences, like corner shops, close by as property was off the beaten path, which was part of its charm. however the Ayar jungle resort was a good place to eat. the mattresses were slightly too firm.

A lovely old British cottage on the hills of Nainital in a quiet area (which is not that common in India, I guess). Both the owner and the caretaker were very friendly and helpful, we got great tips for restaurants. City centre is 15-20 mins downhill, and uphill when you coming back. We only walked but you should be able to take a cab if you dont feel like walking. There is a washing machine available, so you can wash your clothes quite easily. I found both the accomodation and the area quite charming, and honestly this place had the comfiest bed (I prefer firm ones) during our whole trip in India.

Property has a old world charm. Nestled in the forest property has an unique ambience. Mr Rajesh was very helpful and guided us regarding the places of interest around Nainital. Caretaker Ganesh was very helpful and efficient.

Nothing in particular

Large rooms and plenty of space inside the apartment, with committed and involved caretaker. Surrounded by greenery and no noise.

(1) The front garden in photos including the thumbnail for the property and in search results, is not accessible to guests as its fully fenced off plus entirely private, yet appears prominently throughout booking. The actual apartment on the first floor has a side entrance with enclosed living rooms without much outside/any mountain views (listed in facilities section), so if seeking the heritage cottage/homestay experience of the garden in pictures with people, or mountains, then its not included. (2) Not enough blankets (regular and electric that were working), nor enough heaters at the coldest time of the year. At other times it might be sufficient, but take care in peak winter as if there's a long overnight power outage, then there's no backup heating (its not advertised btwm which is fair). Have omitted detail from the latter as there was a minor agree-to-disagree situation, but the gist is that customers seek a mere acknowledgment of a problem when they bring it to the owner's attention, in a manner consistent with the hospitality industry anywhere, otherwise it will be the brokering third party who shall decide and go over the property's listed facilities minutely. Hence we got a refund via booking.com after submitting our evidence.
