Villa Apollon

Villa Apollon is a spacious and comfortable villa located on a prominent piece of high ground overlooking the coast. The facilities are good and the local shops and tavernas easily walkable, although the hill is steep. The coastal strip is functional rather than pretty with the national highway running through it. The shops, bars and tavernas are all excellent but don't expect the same beautiful architecture you would find in villages or the old Venetian ports. Sfakaki beach is good for relaxing and swimming with plenty of bars and restaurants. The villa has balconies and a plunge pool area if sun bathing is your thing. Our host was excellent and easily contactable night and day. The weekly cleaning was a very welcome surprise! We very much used the villa as a place to sleep rather than a holiday location in its own right so for us it was an excellent base for exploration and cultural visits.

There are a few observations (not criticisms) that I hope will aid in continual improvement. The showers were 'hand held' only. A shower head holder could be easily fitted for a few Euros. The hot water is solar heated, which is excellent. We had a couple of cloudy days and one stormy day and the water was a bit lukewarm on these days. The plunge pool filter is quite noisy and can be heard from the downstairs bedroom. I am a light sleeper and needed earplugs. It would be great if the filter could be turned off at night. Similarly, there was a dog barking some nights in the villa next door that affected me as a light sleeper. Perhaps the biggest observation is that on the stormy day some of the windows (lounge and bathrooms) blew open and wouldn't stay shut. Storms are a rare event so it may have been the first time anyone noticed!

This is a beautiful villa in a great location at a very reasonable price. The big attraction is sunset which can be enjoyed from all of the balconies. The beach is only a ten minute walk away with tavernas, cafes and a supermarket nearby. You must go to the Vanilla Beach Bar for sundowner cocktails! The three bedrooms are good size and comfortable and the two bathrooms are nice as well. The kitchen and living areas are well equipped. The outside space is lovely; the pool is quite small but perfect for a refreshing dip for the family and very clean. All round, the villa was spotless and it was a bonus that it was cleaned for us every few days with sheets and towels changed. Dimitris is a very pleasant host but doesn't bother you unless you need something. We were so happy with our choice for a two week holiday (we are a family of four with kids aged 13 and 17) and we would highly recommend this property. A car is advisable to visit Chania, Rethymno for sightseeing and to take advantage of the numerous beautiful other beaches and attractions in the area.

The location is perfectly positioned to visit the big cities, famous beaches, while offering a quite, less crowded environment if families want to stay in Sfakaki. The view is stunning from house, the pool is great, rooms are comfortable and well separated. Very nice overall.

There was nothing that we did not like about the property. Perfect for families or group of friends to stay at.

The view was outstanding from every window. The sunsets were beautiful. The beds are comfy. Very clean. Everything you need for your stay.

The bathrooms are very dated. There was nowhere to rest the shower head in order to have a shower. The pool area needs a bit of work, the pump on the pool was very nosy. The manager/owner lives under the villa in a self contained apartment which made it feel less private. They have two dogs that come around the outside area, however they were very cute and friendly.
