2024 Traveler Award winning rental, Hanalei Colony Resort I2 is unique among north shore Kauai condo resorts. These Hanalei vacation rentals are directly on the path to follow, just take a few steps and you're on the sand. And I2 is literally just a few steps to the beach, with absolutely amazing sea views from every room. The only way you could be any closer to the water is if you were actually on a boat! You can also take advantage of the restaurant and spa onsite, or prepare your own food in your apartment's full kitchen or on the gas grills provided. Pool, jacuzzi, guest laundry room, and barbecue are conveniently close.

Hanalei Colony Resort I2 is beautiful inside with a prime oceanfront location at north shore Kauai's only true beachfront resort. You can see the beach from your living room and bedroom windows, and once you step out onto the shady lanai, it's only a couple more steps and you're right there on the secluded sandy beach that fronts the property!

Inside, you'll find a full kitchen, with subway tile backsplash and custom cabinetry. There are two full bathrooms, recently refreshed. The first bedroom is furnished with a king bed, and the guest bedroom has a queen size bed. Both bedrooms can be closed off from the shared living areas with wooden louver doors that preserve the refreshing airflow while providing visual privacy. Note that sound will still carry, so if you're streaming a late-night movie, be sure to keep the volume low. The living room and dining area each comfortably accommodate 4 people. Your private (furnished) lanai is absolutely perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee or evening glass of wine while relaxing to the sounds of the surf and enjoying the cool breeze. There is a smart TV, and dedicated high-speed wifi is provided so you won't be completely cut off from the modern world. (Only as cut off as you wish to be.)

In addition to Hanalei Colony Resort I2's beautiful interior and perfect sea views of the beach just in front, guests can enjoy the swimming pool, jacuzzi, barbecue grills, and guest laundry room. You can walk next door to the Gaia restaurant. Also located just across the parking lot is the Hanalei Day Spa. Just ten minutes past the charming town of Hanalei, you'll find that shopping and dining options are conveniently close. It's the perfect Kauai vacation rental for proposals, honeymoons, anniversaries, and other romantic occasions.

While wonderfully furnished and right next to the beach, please know that the development was built in simpler times. The units are smaller and have kitchens to match. Some normal amenities will be absent given the space and purposeful attempt to honor the simplicity of earlier times: you won’t find a dishwasher or washing machine in any of the units (there is a laundry room on the premises), and most units have no televisions (though wifi is available for those of us who can't escape work or want to stream our favorite shows).

As with most homes on Kauai, this vacation rental is NOT air conditioned.

Although this home has a dedicated high-speed internet connection, the speed and reliability of wifi cannot be guaranteed due to the remote location and the service being provided by a third-party.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Location Location Location - truly a great location on Kuaia's North Shore. But you don't want a ground floor unit like we had. Trying to go to sleep? Good luck as Thump Thump Thump from upstairs unit of people walking around makes it tough. Up early, so are they, scrape thump scrape as chairs get dragged around upstairs. So pretty annoying, best if you don't plan on being in the unit very much. Pool area is nice, but young children can be unsupervised there so expect kids' yelling like they do in a pool.Overall it was a pretty pricey stay for the quality of the unit, but if we had an upstairs unit it would have been ok.

Beautiful location which we very much enjoyed. The unit however, was a bit musty and showed a good deal of wear due to the humidity. Without air conditioning, everything remained damp and never dried out fully. Even though they had never gotten wet, eventually our iPhones would no longer charge due to moisture being detected in their charging portals. We needed to leave a day early and check into a nice hotel in order to get better cleaned up and dry out before returning home. After a few hours our phones were again able to recharge too. Again, the Colony is in a beautiful place. Nice place to visit if you can stop and clean up somewhere else afterwards. While air conditioning was not needed temperature wise, we sure wish we had had it to get rid of the humidity, Seemed to us like a high end camping.

This was my first visit to Hawaii and it did not disappoint. We were looking for a location that was away from the crowds but close to great beaches. We also wanted to be close to the ocean for morning walks and to watch the sun rise. This spot is right next to Tunnels Beach (our new favorite) and some great hikes. This place checked off all the boxes.We are a family of 4 and had plenty of space in the condo. We look forward to returning next year!

Wonderful location at the end of the road. Quiet and peaceful. The unit was one of the few with internet TV which was appreciated for evenings when we weren't playing cards. Pool and bbq area was wonderful. We really enjoyed the off/on rain during this time of year. You can't swim here, but Tunnels is only a few minutes away.

A very nice laid-back area of the island. The beaches here are not swimmable but you are only footsteps from the ocean and the mornings are beautiful to see the sunrise from this location. Sandy Beach right outside of our lanai. Lawn chairs, umbrella and cooler are provided and there are grills available with refrigerators and sink at poolside.

We were looking for an out-of-the-way place with easy access to the beach. We were not interested in cooking meals so the small kitchen was not an issue. You could cook a big meal but it might be tricky. The best part was hearing the ocean, sitting on the lanai having coffee or a glass of wine. Then if you wanted, take a couple steps and you are on the beach. As stated, the place does not have AC which is typical. We were comfortable with just the breeze (January). Checkin/out super easy. Would absolutely stay here again.

We spent 4 days at the Hanalei Colony Resort, which is where this unit is. It was a good combo of a privately owned and managed unit with a resort structure, with a restaurant and grounds and maintenance crews. I’m afraid I can’t really recommend the food in the restaurant, which we found disappointing. But the unit itself was nicely furnished and the kitchen well stocked. The proximity to the ocean is great - this unit is oceanfront. And I got the best massage of my life from Ginger at the day spa there.

You cannot beat this place for location. Listening to the ocean waves at night (and the stars!!) was magical. We were perfectly comfortable with the unit and enjoyed the pool and mellow community. It is a bit of a drive to the places to eat in Hanalei, so best to cook your meals or commit to a bit of a commute.

The unit is described accurately. Plenty of amenities for our family’s 4 day stay. The beach provided spectacular sunrises and sunsets, even visited by the native monk seal.

We had a great time staying at this property! The condo is well-appointed (looks like recent remodel), spacious and in a fantastic location. As advertised, it is steps from the beach. We woke up to to amazing sunrises every morning. The location is a little remote (20 minute drive back to Hanalei), but benefits from being 3 minutes from Tunnels beach and 10 minutes from Ke'e beach. If you want a beautiful, tranquil place to stay where you can listen to the ocean, this is your place! I will say that the overall property needs a paint job for all of the railings (parts of the resort a little run down). But not a big deal -- and the inside of the condo was beautiful and well kept. Also, the (seems like recently added) pool/hot-tub/BBQ area is beautiful. The only thing keeping this from being a 5-star review was just some very minor stuff. Our bathroom was out of shampoo (we had to buy some), and the kitchen needed just a couple of small things for cooking (a bigger frying pan and a strainer for pasta). Also, if you book through VRBO (versus the property management) you don't get to use the property shuttle to town/beaches. But these are definitely first-world problems. Overall, a great place in a beautiful location that lived up to its marketing! Thanks for a great stay!

First off, the location is perfect for people that like solitude. It's not busy and the oceanfront views are amazing. Listening to the waves crashing was perfection. It did get a little warm but not unbearable (and I get hot easy). The place was clean. The king bed isn't in the oceanfront room with attached bathroom so that was a little weird for our situation. The king bed also felt like some kind of air mattress, it wasn't super comfortable. I'm not sure I would stay again because they literally won't make sure you have enough toilet paper. I know. I know. That sounds ridiculous but come on....I texted them to let them know that we may run out and the response was that they couldn't get us some and we could go buy our own. I'm sorry but that is pretty dang basic and the fact that this is a known problem is just plain weird. They say they give you a "starter pack" of items but that isn't a thing. That is something they made up to make themselves not look so bad. EVERYWHERE provides enough toilet paper. They also charge for things like, if you use more than 4 towels, when 4 people are staying. The kitchen was OK stocked but we didn't use their stuff a whole lot. We didn't find a sheet pan to be able to cook a pizza. I really really wanted to love this place but I'm not sure if I would return literally based on the fact that I have to buy/bring my own toilet paper. That's just weird. (We didn't end up running out but we were close, no one likes that situation).

The property is as advertised. Being at the very northern tip of the island is amazing and having the restaurant onsite with access to the Pool/spa was very nice. Proximity to all of the northern beaches is a real benefit including the one steps from the back door. Thank you.

They don't lie when they say you are steps from the beach and you can listen to it all day long from the unit! The kitchen is awesome to be able to prepare meal and the this portion of the island is perfect for the island life with all the shops and restaurants but the small town feel and atmosphere that makes the location perfect!

Perfect sized unit and creative configuration for families with very young kids. We made full use of the walk out to the sand every morning. Our two-year old was a big fan of watching the waves while throwing back some longans.

I have stayed in the Napoli Colony Resort many times since 1995 and this was a stay where the general room was disappointing. From water damage in the shower due to a second story apartment leak, to chairs that were falling apart underneath, to just one roll of toilet paper per bathroom for a 10 day stay, I was really unhappy. In addition, many of the other Colony Resort Apartments have much more comfortable beds and in general, a cleaner more professional attitude to the rooms themselves. We will not stay in E2 again. (If you wish to see the problems Ive described, I have taken pictures and videos of the issues we found - i would be happy to share them with you Dennis Passaggio

The Kauai Kahuna is just what I wanted. It was right on the crashing waves with beautiful views of the mountains in a remote area just outside of Hanalei Bay. I loved listening to the waves at night and waking up to the sunrise in the morning. The flowers and the plants on the grounds are wonderful to look at as you walk in and out of the condo. We had a few difficulties with our stay but the staff at Kauai Kahuna found resolutions for us every time. The pool, bbq, and laundry that are onsite were very helpful and welcome bonuses too. I would gladly choose to stay here the next time that I come to the north shore Kauai.

We stayed at 3 different properties on this visit, and I wanted one ON THE SAND - and this was it! You walk off the patio, across the grass past the next door unit...and on to the sand with nothing but the vast ocean in front of you. This isn't a swimmable beach, but that wasn't a priority here. The unit was cozy and comfy. Trade winds and fans kept us pretty comfortable - and it's like there is just a think veil between you and nature that way. We loved the proximity to Tunnels Beach and Hanalei, without being IN Hanalei. Onsite restaurant was just meh, but we didn't get a chance to try the coffee spot. This location does have more "critters" than other places we stayed, but we just kept everything in the fridge (everything!), and it was fine. Otherwise these teeny tiny ants would appear out of thin air on the counter! I would recommend, and would definitely stay here again.

Overall, our stay was great. The location was good because it was away from the hubbub of Kapaa and other busier island spots. Hanalei is a charming town with shopping, grocery, and good restaurants. The condo was right on the water as advertised and the resort area were cared for. It was roomy and pleasant. Wi-fi service was terrible to nonexistent. Even though we had been warned about this, our neighbors had good service. The floors had not been mopped and cobwebs were hanging from the fans and blinds. We were advised to bring extra toilet paper and soap, which we did. We had a three-week stay and believe that a cleaning should have been included in the fee. For what we paid, we feel like the Wi-Fi should have worked, TP, bath soap and one cleaning should have been included.

The patio was as advertised, amazing view. Great ocean breezes. Private resort. Nice long walks on the beach. Good swimming area in the ocean to the left of the resort if looking out at the ocean. Otherwise bit tough I would imagine for kids wanting to be in the ocean swimming. Inside of the unit the reality is that it needs cleaned up. Not a surface clean after each guest, but a good ole deep deep clean. This did not wreck our stay but it is in need of updates. Both beds are in need of replacement. We are not trying to be picky guests, as we stay at all sorts of places. We just think reviews are what make peoples vacations particularly great or particularly bad. The unit sits next to a drainage or creek that flows from the mountains. It can or did have a strange smell on several occasions through your stay. Patio chairs - comfortable. Beach chairs and umbrella perfect. There is a unit above. You will hear the movements and voices of the guests above. This is lolder construction - the insulation does not dampen sound. Bring your own ice. The unit has one, 12 cube tray - 4 of them leak. Effectively you will have 8 cubes with each freezing. Not a big deal. Ice can be sourced. Not the first reviewers to mention this. Must not be an important item for management. Coffee pot was broken for our visit. Had a hole in it. Overall great location, feels dirty on inside - outside is where it’s at.

They are communicative and follow up. The property we stayed in at HCR was so special. My daughter and I enjoyed every minute there. Unfortunately, two and a half weeks before the trip we had an unforeseen circumstance and then another right before the trip and there was no flexibility to cancel or get a credit so we had to go without my son and husband two years in a row. I don’t even know if insurance would cover that, but will need to make sure we are protected in the future one way or another because it was a large investment for just half our family to enjoy.

It was clean upon arrival, but definitely smaller than what it appears. It was right on the beach, so that was great. The kitchen was updated. One complaint would be that they only provide salt and pepper. Every other VRBO I have stayed in at least provides a variety of many spices including cooking spray, which there was none of. They also did not provide any kitchen towels which was a little frustrating because since there is no dishwasher, we had to hand wash the dishes and use the paper towels to dry them. And they only provide two rolls of paper towels. And no ice maker or ice trays in the freezer, so we had to buy ice. Also the only restaurant that is on the property was closed for the entire time we were there and the coffee place also closed on the second day for the remainder of the week. That would have been nice to know ahead of time. Otherwise, it is a nice little condo in a very remote area.

This was a really nice condo and we had a fabulous time here. The layout of the property is nice and the view was really good. It was the second condo back from the oceanside so the view wasn't as direct as we thought it would be based on the photos but it was fine. The only problems we had were the screen door to the lanai was broken/not maintained properly so that was a real pain going in and out to enjoy the lanai. There is no dishwasher here so you need to do the dishes before you leave, however, there was no stopper for the sink so you have to do each one by hand which was a real pain and time-consuming and was unexpected as we were getting ready to leave. Also, there were no ice cube trays other than broken pieces of one left in the freezer, which again, was a pain to try and get ice for cocktails on the lanai.

There is so much to appreciate about this property and some things to know before you go. Being a downstairs condo, the access to the beach and view are amazing. Since there are people above you, the noise can be a bit off-putting. Services in the area are minimal due to location and covid issues. This unit is not managed by the resort and that has it's own limitations. No onsite assistance and no access to the park shuttle bus. In general, all good things to know before you go.

The unit was a great fit for our family of 4. The lawn out front was awesome for little soccer matches + cartwheels, beach access was incredible, and the lanai was peaceful for morning coffee + evening drinks and cards! The location is off the beaten path and the water is barely swimmable so know that going in. But off the beaten path is just what we wanted so it was perfect! And there’s enough or a beach break for little kids to play in the shorebreak and explore. The unit was nicely furnished. Full kitchen but barely stocked, which was fine for us. Just be prepared. The grounds are gorgeous with a beautiful pool, gas bbq area, and convenient laundry. Really great fit for multiple families. Lastly, the on-site restaurant is a huge win. Hanalei restaurants are hard to get into so we loved grabbing a midday bite in town and ending up at the Opakapaka. No wait, great staff, good food + drinks. And just a walk home. Great spot. We’ll be back!

The unit is about 20 steps from the beach. The view from the patio is a beautiful unobstructed ocean view. The beach is very secluded and has a large reef. It’s great for looking for sea life and the view across hanalei bay, but you can’t swim right in front of the property due to the reef.

If the lush tropical environs of the north shore appeal, there is no better location. Located almost at center between Hanalei proper and the end of the road at Ke'e Beach, the property was well appointed with comfortable furnishings and a kitchen well-stocked with appliances. Deducted a star from the accuracy of the listing because the second bedroom was represented as an office/lounging space (which I needed for work), but was furnished as a second bedroom (which may suit others more).

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Once we found the actual condo, out stay was relaxing and the “resort” lovely. The employees from groundskeepers to property managers were so thoughtful and helpful. The condo was like new inside, new appliances, pots and pans and utensils. Couple notes for future guests; there are zero condiments, you will need to purchase basics including salt and pepper in this unit. ALSO, first time guests, the number of the condo is actually the letter “I” , number of condo is 2.
We were very confused trying to find unit 12, when it was actually I-2.
Perhaps adding a hyphen will help.
You must use the app for complete instructions. We were unaware that we had to get a parking pass and register and show our COVID test (Hawaii safe) to the registration area. Might be helpful to have all this information in the emails that confirm the reservations. The fan chain was broken in living room, but with the breezes off the ocean it wasn’t necessary for this time of year.
The condo had beach chairs, umbrella and masks and snorkle (did not use).
Pool is best kept secret. Hardly anyone was using it.
Also, if you plan on hiking certain trails or going to Ke’e, advance passes are required.
Loved out stay, even with the few minor inconveniences. Will definitely come back.
