About this house rental

Tiny Askeaton is one of the oldest villages in Ireland, tucked between the ruins of Desmond Castle and the Franciscan Friary: the area buzzes with medieval history. Slip through simple iron gates and up a long track to Inchirourke (still a working organic farm) and your converted cow shed. Yasmin and Donagh, whose family have lived here for 400 years, will be there to greet you with an assortment of friendly dogs. Step inside and rusticity is forgotten! Here you find something more akin to a smart Chelsea apartment: white ceramic floors heated underfoot, a high loft ceiling with exposed beams, an open fireplace at one end, and light streaming in through a wall of windows – just lovely. The kitchen is a good and bright place to cook. Bedrooms are at either end of the living room, one with a bath, the other with a tiled wet room; both have antique furniture, great beds and softly patterned Roman blinds at small windows with deep sills. There are 500 acres to wander, woodland for scampering and the river Deel for fishing. You are on a working farm and guests are welcome to join in farm activities such as feeding hens, collecting eggs, rounding up cattle, picking apples and any other farm jobs that arise.

Donagh’s farm is magical! His home is comfortable and has everything you need - including a dryer (we’ve stayed at many places in Ireland that listed a dryer but it was a drying rack). We got to know the dogs and some of the cows, and for my kids, this was the best part. The grounds of the estate make you feel like you’re staying in a medieval castle with all the comforts of modern technology. Donagh has fresh eggs in the fridge for us and lots of condiments and supplies that may have been left by previous guests. Donagh was attentive and came over when we had a question and is a great storyteller. We loved chatting with him!We visited Bunratty and Craggaunowen (combo package totally worth it). We also rode horses at Ferguscastle Riding Stables. We highly recommend those too! Wonderful family farm that takes you into the Irish forests and fields of baby sheep on your own horse. What wonderful memories we made at Donagh’s farm!

This lovely, spacious cottage is tucked away on a beautiful farm. Yet we were close to Adare, Bunratty and more. The host Don was very attentive and helpful, and stocked the fridge with fresh eggs, milk and butter. It was nice to return from our hectic day trips to this peaceful oasis!

Very lovely quiet location. Set on a working cattle farm off the beaten path. It lived up to its billing. WIFI was just a bit inconsistent because of the weather but was a minor issue. Host was very very responsive and personable. I would highly recommend it.

We were very impressed with everything about the house…as others have mentioned, go slow on the drive in!

We flew into Shannon and needed a place not too far to learn to drive on the left and to recover from jet lag. This beauty looked perfect and so very Irish! We got lost initially so called Don and he stayed on the phone and talked us through town. He walked us through the house and explained any details. It’s on his farm and is just as described. Lots of tools and needed things in the kitchen. He left us butter and farm eggs in the kitchen. We slept very well, comfortable pillows, beds and sheets. Plenty of hot water. The cows were lovely and just across the road. Very peaceful and quiet. Before we left, he invited us for a cuppa and we sat in his kitchen and learned a bit about his life and family. Lovely man, really a wonderful start to our trip.
