Waterfront property home away from home

We wanted to start off this review by saying we had a great time at this VRBO house. The house is large and comfortable with plenty of room to accommodate our family gathering for Thanksgiving dinner. It is nicely situated overlooking the Indian River and the view from the master balcony is amazing. We were in communication with the owners over the weekend and they were, for the most part, very responsive to our needs. Unfortunately there were several things that prevent us from giving this VRBO a higher rating and nearly all of those involve housekeeping issues. The house was not sufficiently clean. The floors were dusty and dirty and there was no suitable mop or vacuum provided. We bought a mop and a family member who lives close by brought a vacuum over. The bed linens in the downstairs bedrooms had evidence of small strands of hair on the sheets and pillow cases. The bathrooms were not clean either. We found used bars of soap and partially used bottles of shampoo and conditioner in the shower. There was urine in the toilet and on the seat of the downstairs bath. We did pay a cleaning fee and should not have had to do so much cleaning to get the place up to a minimum of cleanliness. The house sleeps six and there were six of us staying there, but there were only four bath towels in the house when we arrived. The very nice owner had additional bath towels delivered, but did not provide hand towels or wash cloths as part of the towel package. Additionally, there were a number of technical issues with the house, not the least of which was that the oven did not work properly. We specifically chose this property because it had a large oven so that we could cook our large Thanksgiving turkey. The oven, while it was large and new looking, would shut down once it pre-heated to the proper temperature. The gardeners were here most of our stay which we felt was somewhat of an invasion of our privacy. the smell of the water. The water, presumably from a well on the property, has a distinct sulfur smell, like rotten eggs. Finally, it would have been very helpful to have a “Welcome Book”that provides the names and numbers to local restaurants, shopping, and things-to-do in the area. Aside from the constructive criticism, we really did have a wonderful time. 2021 Thanksgiving is up there as one of our best!
