Summary:
Casa Serena is your chance to breathe clean mountain air and enjoy the sounds and textures of Puerto Rico's natural beauty. It's a mountain retreat with all the comforts of a home. Nestled in a remote mountainous yet pristine fertile land of Las Marias PR. Casa Serena offers you and your friends the chance to hike, take a dip in the Guaba river, and then watch the sunset between the green hills while you feel the breeze from our locally made hammocks or from our heated infinity pool.
The Space:
Casa Serena is a Spanish colonial style, 5-bedroom and 3-bathroom mansion hidden away in the hills of Las Marias with all the amenities of a hotel, but with the look and feel of a farm hacienda. The views, the breeze, and the lush greenery, frame an all-around balcony with hammocks and rocking chairs, a modern kitchen, newly furnished living room with big screen TV, wifi and games, elegant bathrooms, and air conditioned comfortable bedrooms with soft luxurious bedding. The mansion includes a 20 kw emergency generator with fuel to run at full capacity for five days. The property also include 1000 gal water cistern in case it is needed for a spectacular stay.
Guest Access:
We highly recommend hiking boots for walking the Hacienda. At the property, you will find hiking sticks you can borrow. It is a great workout and chance to really experience nature at its full glory.
The Neighborhood:
The town of Lares is just 15-20 minutes away with its rich cultural plaza, surrounding museums, attractions, local restaurants, some fast foods, and even a Walgreens. Hacienda Lealtad, a restored 19th century Puerto Rican coffee plantation that offers tours, coffee tasting, and a great restaurant, is 15 minutes away. The 'Heladería El Grito' is renowned for its tasty ice creams in many creative flavors is nearby in the Lares town square. An education farm tour in a cacao farm is 30 minutes away. A little further away are many other attractions such as zip-lining, waterfalls, caves, a world-renowned observatory, and much more. Beaches are only an hour away.
Getting Around:
Casa Serena is almost a 2-hour drive from San Juan. A car is a necessity in the mountains, and 4-wheel drive is ideal. Roads are not clearly marked but the GPS is reliable in most areas. However, one must be careful while traveling through the curvy roads to reach the property. We are available to provide you with clear directions and even show you the way to and from Casa Serena. Maps of the area and signage will help you get there easily.
Other Things to Note:
All Hacienda Serena Guests can visit the nearby "Colmado" Supermarket " La Ultima Parada" owned by Bernice and Jerry. There you can get a FREE "cuajito" to taste the local cuisine. Gas station also near by the Colmado.

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place to spend a few days to decompress from our busy jobs. Hacienda Serena was breathtakingly beautiful and we spent most of our time outdoors on the 360 veranda and in the heated pool.
Make sure to plan all your meals and come ready to unwind. The kitchen was well stocked and we had everything we needed to cook all our meals.
The host Antonio was so helpful. He was kind and quickly responded to every question I had. We will definitely put this home on our list of must visit again.

The surroundings are to die for -- just green mountains and the sky. The house is very clean and beautiful. However there are only two bathrooms for four BRs, one of which if very tiny and we were not able to use the shower as you could not adjust the temperature on it (only extremely hot water came out). The pool is heated which was a plus. We enjoyed going down the mountain to visit the river but it was a very very exhausting hike to come back up specially because we were with young children. It would be nice if they offer a ride down to the river in the future.
