A mill situated in a secluded spot

The Steinbachsmühle is located in the far north of Bavaria, in the Schiefergebirge, where the Franconian Forest and the Thuringian Forest meet and today form the “Green Belt,” marking the former border between East and West. This is truly a place where foxes and hares say “Good night!” to one another—and not just them: rare animal species such as the black stork or the horseshoe bat, a quiet little stream babbling away —flowing from Steinbach an der Haide (which has also been named one of Germany’s “Golden Villages”)—a mill pond, and the fully preserved grain mill mark a place that has existed since the late 17th century and stands as the antithesis of city life and its hustle and bustle.
