Kurunduketiya Private Rainforest Resort

The property is located in a beautiful, peaceful setting, completely surrounded by nature. The stream running through the property and the natural pool are incredibly unique and make the whole experience feel very special. The wooden design of the villa is warm and beautiful, and the rooms are comfortable and luxurious. It truly feels like a little hidden paradise.

The walk to the villa is quite long, so it’s worth being prepared for that. The location is also best suited for guests who want to stay at the property and enjoy the peace, nature and meals there, rather than going in and out frequently. For us, this was exactly what we were looking for.

We absolutely loved the place. The setting is so idyllic, with the waterfall cascading through the property and surrounded by trees and hills. The place itself is beautifully made and furnished. Modern yet in keeping with the natural surroundings. The rooms are spacious with comfy beds, ac, beautiful bathrooms with forest views and hot water. Balcony's off the bedrooms with panoramic views. The main lounge and dining area is open and airy with views either side. Disa the host was really accommodating, helpful and a great cook. We went for walks around the property and saw an abundance of wildlife. The day we arrived there was not much water in the pool as there hadn't been much rain but in the night and the next morning we had enough rain to fill the pool. The food was delicious and freshly prepared local cuisine. Directions to the place were great and so it was easy to find. The short walk to the villa from the car park was not too taxing and was really lovely. We would definitely go back and have already recommended it to friends and family.

As mentioned above we loved the place. Just a few things to be aware of. The accommodation itself we felt was great value however the meals were really quite expensive. It was delicious but 7,000 lkr pp for dinner (roti, Dahl curry and onion sambal with curd and treacle) is a lot and honestly as much as you would pay for a buffet in a 5* hotel in Colombo. The breakfast was cheaper but still very expensive for what we got. We had agreed to the prices before our trip but it's just something to be aware of. We paid 10,000 lkr for an extra bed however on arrival there was no extra bed and we found ourselves having to bring in a sunbed for my 15 year old son to sleep on. We did get extra sheets and a pillow but it just would have been nice to know this when we discussed it with the owner. Transparency just would have prevented us from expecting an extra bed. We would however still book again but just worth being aware of. The place is truly magical.

Completely secluded location. The architectural design of the building is beautiful

it would’ve been nice to have had a stocked fridge although the staff prepared lovely food. Would recommend not having the barbecue and sticking to the local dishes as they are fantastic.
