Papagayo Beach Hotel

Beautiful location, beautiful beach facilities. Rooms were outdated for the price and services were disorganized. There was no coffee maker when I arrived and I had to nearly beg for cleaning service almost every day. Towards the end of the trip they eventually paid more attention.

Great stay here, having the supermarket next door was so convenient along with all the restaurants.

There are no porters to assist with your luggage. And the pathway is of cobble stone what makes it difficult for modern suitcases. All doors have a self shutting mechanism, which make that you get doorslamming all of the time. There is potential but they need to upgrade the service

Firstly, I want to say that the front desk staff was absolutely wonderful, welcoming, and very helpful. Unfortunately, I have to say that the staff elsewhere left much to be desired. Much of the beach staff was downright rude and unpleasant, and generally made us feel unwelcome. The situation with the towels needs to be addressed immediately - every time we tried get a towel it felt like we were being suspected of stealing, and the need to keep track of a card to get one towel at a resort where you’re paying several hundred dollars a night is absolutely ridiculous. Also, considering that this is a resort and beach club, there’s almost no staff to be found at the beach itself – no one to take any orders, no one to ask questions of, and, in fact, the only person we saw asked us every single day if we even belonged there and would never remember that we were guests. The bartenders at the beach bar a seem rather clueless and don’t know how to make basic drinks; they are also some of the slowest I’ve ever experienced considering the bar was not at all busy Our beachfront ocean-view room had many issues… The air-conditioning did not work for two days which made being in the room unbearable, and then after being fixed, the ceiling dripped air-conditioning discharge onto anyone using the sink, and made the floor hazardous to walk on. When they DID fix the air-conditioning, they also left pieces of the ceiling all over the shower and bathroom floor. In addition, the layout of the room was pretty awful, with the door handle to the patio being positioned nearly behind a wall, and the toilet being connected to the main living area, while being and about 20 steps away from the sink. The bathroom itself was so small and had poor lighting. The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillows were the worst we’ve ever slept on - we did not get great sleep. There are also no side tables for the bed, which made bedtime awkward. Overall, the rooms need a renovation. There was twice a ladder just blocking the hallway to our room for hours, which just speaks to the overall thought that the hotel gives to guests. Before checking out, we asked the front desk to speak with management and refund us for significant portion of the stay due to the issues. Once this is addressed, I would consider upping my rating slightly, because to pay perhaps $150/night would be acceptable due to the location and beach itself, paying $400/night is one of the worst values at a hotel of this quality I have ever experienced.
