The location was great, easy walk to S+U Westhafen. We also easily walked to Arminiusmarkthalle for dinner one night, which had a great environment and decent food options. A few minutes walk away from the apartment is a bar called Zaffke, which had great drinks that were reasonably priced. The area felt secure, and the courtyard was quiet and surrounded by plants. A previous reviewer complained about rats, which seems unreasonable. Its in a major city and at ground level, what do you expect? I had no issue with any animals inside or outside the apartment other than a spider, which is normal. There is a park nearby, which was closed for renovations during my stay, but it gives you access to a playground and the option to do calisthenics. A supermarket is also a few minutes walk away. The apartment was cute, cozy, and super clean. You enter through a big red door, and immediately on your right is the light switch for the hall. Then you walk straight to the end and the building for the apartment is there. Easy to come and go. Since it is a semi-basement, the floor would get a bit cold, but the heaters worked well. I recommend keeping the windows open to circulate the air well, but I was there mid-March. There was a small kitchen which we used to make tiramisu easily and stored in the fridge. Not sure about cooking hot food, because we didn't get the chance to, but pans and plates were provided. They also provided coffee and tea, which we drank every day. For what I paid, I was very happy. I think decent pricing is under $160/night.
The layout has changed from the pictures provided, but not a big deal. I think the previous layout would've been preferable considering the location of the radiator and the windows, etc. Please get better curtains that cover up the entirety of the windows. I had to use a hair clip to hold them closed, and they were not long enough. The mattress was uncomfortable after a few days, and the pillows were not supportive. I would recommend improving these two for guests. Since the floor is tile, providing slippers for every guest would be appreciated. I think more towels should also be provided and the washing machine made more easily accessible by clearing out the storage closet (which was packed with extra pillows, etc. Could be better organized with a storage system from IKEA so all supplies are stored away and closet space for hanging clothes is provided. I also think that it would be better if you had higher quality toiletries, as well as hand soap at both sinks. The toiletries were cheap and smelled unpleasantly artificial on top of it not feeling good on the skin. This is my biggest complaint. If I were traveling solo as a woman, I think I would also be a bit anxious entering and leaving. This is the responsibility of the building, but improved lighting at the front entrance (not referring to the hall, which does have a light) and in the courtyard would be great.
