Neat building - a former YMCA.
No staff on site, although they are very responsive via text. The room did not have additional blankets and it was negative temps, so we requested an extra one and it arrived quickly.

Easy to get around inside the building
No parking, entrance / restaurant too loud, uncomfortable bed
5.0 / 10.0
We liked the location, and the parking was easy. We liked that there was a restaurant in the lobby, even though we did not eat there.
The rooms were clean, simple and modern.
This was more “hostel” than “hotel”. The staff is mostly virtual (which was, to be fair, communicated at the time of booking) unfortunately many of the “supplies/amenities” were self service and the supply closet didn’t have enough stock.
We needed extra blankets, and we were directed by text to go to the supply closet, but there were no blankets available. We did however find someone (who was very helpful) and he found one for us, but it took more effort than it should have.

Easy access, good location, spacious room, well equipped
Late check-in (4pm), lighting in true room could be better

It met our expectations. It was very clean. Check in and out were electronic.
Pedestal sink didn't offer much space to work with. Bed against the wall was difficult to negotiate.
10.0 / 10.0
That it was close to a lot of great establishments for food and entertainment.
The pillows were VERY FLAT! They didn’t hold any shape, had a hard time aligning my neck and shoulders.

I liked the atmosphere and location of the hotel
Parking, but it wasn’t as expensive as I thought it would be

The location was excellent. This was the first time ever I stayed at a property having a virtual desk. I was skeptical initially but the experience was flawless as the process was more smooth to get in without any desk related check in time and without answering any questions to anyone. I would highly recommend the property. There is a phone number from which you get instant reply for any query.
If they include breakfast, it will be much better for the guests. Also, some kind of vegetarian/ vegan breakfast should be there.

Nothing
Where do I even start?
Since the moment I arrived, I’ve reported several issues: the water pressure is ridiculously low, the temperature is unstable, sometimes the hottest setting is barely warm, and then suddenly it burns you.
The room smelled horribly of dampness, and the cushions were filthy — literally with old and new stains of all sizes and colors. It felt like a joke.
The bed didn’t have enough blankets, so the first night we literally had to cover ourselves with jackets because, of course, since they’re a “hotel” without staff, nothing can be fixed the same day.
Random: On the second day, three men came to fix the fire detector. (¿?)
Later, someone came knocking nonstop (I couldn’t open because I was showering) to fix what we had reported. I asked them to come back in one or two hours when I was done.
Random 2: The building’s fire alarm went off for several minutes.
The worst part: when we came back late at night, the room hadn’t been cleaned. They removed the dirty cushions (but didn’t replace them — they just took them away) and didn’t leave the extra blanket they had promised, so once again we were freezing all night.
The bathroom smells bad (clearly no deep cleaning has been done), the shower curtain smells of mildew, and the exhaust fan doesn’t work. Nothing works.
In summary: this isn’t a hotel, it’s a bad, mediocre Airbnb. The staff may seem friendly over messages, but that friendliness is useless because they don’t offer solutions — they just reply like robots saying what you want to hear. Neither the facilities nor the amenities resemble a real hotel. I completely regret staying in this warehouse-like place they dare to call a hotel.

The room was a very good size, the bed was very comfortable, the decor is fresh and contemporary. The staff were helpful via WhatsApp.
The HVAC in the building was very fierce. It took some assistance before I could turn the fan off in the bedroom, but the fan was still loud and continuous in the bathroom.

Great location in an historic and charming old YMCA in a nice neighborhood in walking distance to restaurants and grocery stores. Room rate was reasonable, about $130 with tax for a king bed room.
There are no hotel staff present. Restaurant at entrance is not affiliated in any way with Kasa. Every entrance to building and your room requires a "one time" & one use code sent via email (& maybe text, not the case for us). We figured it out, and it worked, but a bit cumbersome. Platform bed was accessible only from one side and furnishings a bit spare ("sofa" was a window seat with 2 throw pillows). Despite these comments, overall we thought it charming and pleased to see an historic building preserved and used so creatively and well.

Plenty of electrical outlets, and great reading lights. Lots of pillows and hooks - I always wish hotels had hooks. Very easy to use the virtual check-in and checkout system. Parking wasn’t that hard to find on the street. I’d definitely go back.
One of the towel hooks was loose in the bathroom, but not really a big deal. I’d love for the lights to be a bit brighter in bathroom but, again not a big deal.

The hotel is staff-lite so check-in and access is all code based and done ahead of arriving. The hotel reached out well ahead of time for the hotel process and made it very easy. Day of, I was sent an access code and it couldn't have been simpler. The hotel is in a beautiful historical YMCA building and the room was a nice size and very comfortable. Great wifi and hot shower. The bar in the lobby is very nice although I did not get the chance to try it out. The neighborhood around the hotel is very walkable and safe with a lot of stores and restaurants nearby. Highly recommend the hotel.
I had a little bit of a frustrating time getting a late checkout. The hotel's online dashboard offers a way to extend your stay (if available) or ask for a late check out (for additional cost). The late check out options are only 1-2 hours additional. I was hoping to get a 4p late check out. I called the morning of my check out and was put on hold several times before being told they would reach back out to me to let me know if that was approved and how much it would cost. They sent a text 15 minutes before check out saying only that it was approved and a new room code. I had to call and wait on hold again to get someone to tell me the cost. They also only sent me a code for my room and not for the hotel entry door so I couldn't get in. Luckily a staff member let me in, but then wanted to confirm that I was actually given a late check out and couldn't find anywhere that I had been and finally sent me on my way anyway. So, great hotel if you don't need to change anything about your stay, but lackluster if you need assistance.

The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The area had a lot of restaurants and stores within walking distance, There is also a vast amount of restaurants and bars within a short drive.
Not enough storage for a long stay

The location was perfect for my visit. The room was very comfortable and included extra touches like snacks left out for us to enjoy. Also, it was very easy to come and go using the technology provided via cell phone (outside entrance code, locking/unlocking my hotel room door with my phone, etc)
I prefer to have on-site parking when staying at a hotel, but I did find street parking without difficulty. Also, I want to note that when I booked my stay, you clearly communicated the parking options, which I appreciated knowing in advance :-)

It felt like truly staying in Pittsburgh. The building while old has been renovated and maintained. There's a lot of history in the architecture and doesn't feel like a typical hotel room. Highly recommend, and would stay here next time without question!

Very clean. Many amenities in the room. Quiet and comfortable. I felt I was the only one in the building. Very secure also!
There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.

We really wanted to like this property. We liked the concept of virtually checking in, some restaurants/coffee shops/stores were within walking distance, and it appeared to be an older building with charm. The Maverick had a bar/restaurant on the main floor that seemed very popular at night. The hotel did not offer parking. There are approximately 10 parking spots in front of the hotel with a limit of 2 hour paid parking. (I believe parking from 10 pm to 8 am is free.) I was told there was a paid parking lot within walking distance to the hotel if we were unable to find street parking.
Check-out was easy.
I requested an earlier check-in time and never received a response. On Saturday evening, I requested new towels via text and I never received a response. Although the concept of a virtual check-in is appealing and easy, this is just another reminder that there’s nothing better than in person communication.
When we checked in, there were cup rings near the coffee maker that were not cleaned by housekeeping. There were a few pieces of rice on the carpet and rice on the door of the mini fridge. In addition, our shower didn’t drain. I had to pull up and hold the drain cover in order for the water to drain. DISGUSTING!

Conveniently located for where I had to go to. Self serving with electronic registration and check out. Had all of the conveniences needed on a trip. Vintage building. Nicely decorated. Good value.
The doors leading in and out of the building are awkward. They open and close opposite of each other kind of trapping you in between them when bringing luggage up the stairs into the lobby.

The property is charming and the rooms are well-appointed and very comfortable.
There was nothing we did not like.
9.0 / 10.0
Convenience of check in. The 3 bed option
Our bedroom could have used more lighting. The one overhead light for both sides of the room was not enough and made in hard if one side needed the light off. Also not enough counter space in the bathroom. The sink if you turned it on too far would splash all over the front of you.

The Maverick is in a tendy/ affluent part of town. There were some homeless people around but they didn't bother us. The hotel was conveniently located to grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, Oakland and downtown Pittsburgh. A door guard would be a good addition for security but we felt generally safe in the building and had no problem with the remote check in. The hotel and room itself was very pretty and cool looking. They left little rubber duckies for our children and cookies and drinking water, all complimentary and that was super thoughtful! The room was very clean but the carpets are black and showed every single crumb! A hand held vacuum would be really useful for guest to use before checking out. We all really enjoyed our stay and would stay again! Thanks Maverick!
No door guard

Spotless clean, great location, cute room
I was a little bit pissed off with the check in process (they didn't send me check in details on time and I had to message them multiple times to get my room code but there was no response until eventually...more than an hour later... they answered) but honestly everything else was great to details. So I can't leave less than 5 stars for this place. Spotless clean, very cozy and cute. Also the price! There's a nice restaurant downstairs, but you can find much more in the area. I went to Duo's for some tacos and margs (yes duolingo's headquarters are right around the corner and they have their own Mexican bar) and 'Lorelei' for some champagne with a view. Both of them are 1-3 min walk.
Also the view from the room was amazing. I'll let the check in issue slide and I hope next time i stay there I'll be fixed:)
Check in wasn't the best

The place was good as the price /value offers you.
I'm struggling with getting an invoice, they send me to booking.com and booking.com send me to maverick to get an invoice, and you know when you travel for work you will need an invoice not only the reservation mail and I requested at the beginning of the service.

The location was great. Very unique decor. The rooms were modern and clean.
Although it was interesting, they were filming a movie about the area we reside in Pennsylvania. We should have been notified as it did make going to and from our room slightly different

It was very clean, spacious, the snack, waters & coffee&tea were great, had all other extras like shampoo, conditioner, lotion, makeup removers. Just an over all 5 out of 5 !! Would def stay again if ever back in the area.
The only thing I didn’t care for was the bed basically on the floor.

We couldnt open the window so the room felt stuffy

The bed was so comfortable! The room was peaceful and had some nice details: the wall pegs for hanging items and the footlocker cabinets (because there is no closet in the room). The fridge was new and clean. The ceiling was tall and the room stayed pitch black at night the way I like.
Not much to dislike but the smaller things that could be addressed were the dimness of the room. The one ceiling bulb was too dim but probably so it wouldn't shine in the eyes of anyone laying on the bed. I asked about this with very nice manager and she offered to bring her floor lamp to my room to brighten it up; kudos to her! Also I would have preferred more surface space in the bathroom for my toiletries but I made do well enough.

My husband is handicapped but we got a shower that wasn’t walk in and I couldn’t get him up into the shower and we was upstairs and their was nobody around to help.

Property was clean and the room had a great vibe and had everything we needed. Good location.
The only concern was that the bathroom floor was super slippery. The other couple we were traveling with did not experience the same so perhaps it was just that room.

The building is a beautifully repurposed YMCA. The room was very well-designed to be both pleasant and functional. We had a view of the church across the street. The location is close to Sunnyside, a great neighborhood with lots of restaurants and interesting shops. If you don't need to be in downtown Pittsburgh, this is a very good location to use as a base to explore the city.
I knew that this would be a virtual hotel, so I can't fault them for that. But it does feel strange to be in a hotel where you rarely see another human being, and, if you do, they are other guests, not staff. I think they shouid do something to liven up the place--perhaps having a restaurant next to the lobby. In their defense, the virtual aspect of the hotel is well-thought out. The check in instructions were clear and we got quick answers when we texted questions to the mysterious Kasa employees located in some mysterious place in the world (but just not in the hotel itself). Also in their defense--the hotel was less expensive than equivalent hotels that have full staff, so I can't complain about that either.
