Hotel Gem

The hotel is an hour away from Busan Bus Terminal, but the location is so close to the beach which I think it would depend what the customer is looking for. In my case, I just wanted something to sleep at for BTS Busan concert and they’re one of the cheapest (not entirely) but compared to the rest of the hotel, they did not cancel my accommodation so that’s a plus. I should also mention the staff is super friendly. She gave us Korean rice cakes which I love. They also speak English which makes it easier for us to interact with them. It’s also near the local bus station.

Despite the the language barrier, the check-in and housekeeping staff were very friendly and accommodating, supplying us with local restaurant recommendations (even escorting us out to the street to point out a particularly delish BBQ spot a few blocks away) and directions as needed. They were also quick to respond to requests for new room items (e.g. towels) and seemed eager to please. The location of the hotel was also great -- just a 5-minute stroll from the beach and innumerable good eateries and cafes. Compared to a lot of other hotels we checked out, too, this was one of the most affordable options.

The room itself felt hastily thrown together, design-wise -- odd window placements, a rickety dining table, a rainforest-style shower head outside the bath in a narrow space next to the sink, etc. And yes, while technically it's true that the window offered a "sea view" if you looked out of it at a certain angle, it would be an exaggeration to call this a seaside property. Don't expect any big bath towels here; they're all of the small hand-towel variety, and we laughed when we saw the hotel's name "HOTEL GEM" embroidered in the tattered dirty floor mat leading to the bathroom. A "gem" this hotel is not, but it wins points for chutzpah!
