Pure Formosa Concept Hotel

Friendly staff, clean modern facilities and a chill vibe!

We arrived on a freakishly humid evening, and wanted to cool down a room that must have been above 25°C on arrival. The hotel prevented this through an elaborate series of steps and tricks, and outright deception. 1) Try to change temp on AC control panel. Nothing happens regardless of settings you select. 2) Call reception and ask them how to make the AC work because it's too hot. The tell us there's a tiny button hiding on the top of the AC control and that must be pressed for it to work, despite how it appeared on. 3) Press button, wait a while, no air comes out of AC unit. Call reception again. 'Oh, ok, we'll turn it on for you then if we must'. 4) AC churns out hot stale air regardless of temperature selected. 5) Go to speak to reception in person. I can't say whether the staff were lying of their own volition or following management protocol to prevent guests using the AC. They told me multiple guests, on every floor, were using their units to heat up their rooms?!? It was roasting in the hotel, so I asked if the staff genuinely believed people were doing this on purpose, or because they were trying to cool the room as I was, but the unit was pumping out hot air regardless. They said people were definitely trying to make rooms even hotter, and might be upset if a whole floor was switched across to 'cool' rather than 'warm'. Hopefully, however in the morning the change could be made then across the floor. 6) I obviously turned off the stale warm air generator, and opened the bedroom door. After a number of hours the room cooled, but stayed freakishly humid as it was like that outside. Opening the door also let in the noise and smell and light from outside- not ideal! 7) In the morning I asked to speak to the manager about this at reception. The man behind me said 'oh my God, are you also complaining about how hot and humid it is and how the AC doesn't work!?' Even the old ladies vacationing there said it was surprisingly warm in the building, and couldn't believe anyone would want to make it hotter. 8) The angry and sour faced manager appeared, sarcastically taunting me and saying people were all trying to make it warmer because it wasn't warm enough, completely ignoring temperature, logic and manners. She ignored my suggestion of a refund for the second night and said I'd have to make do with a fan they'd find. 9) Perehaps there is truth in how the hotel bought a budget AC unit that can only either cool or heat the entire building at once, there's still no truth in the claim that anyone was DELIBERATELY heating their rooms the first night I was there! Unwittingly, guests will activate heating mode in an attempt to cool their rooms, due to the stupid control options! The breakfast room was also unpleasantly hot and humid, so we tried to eat in the courtyard on the tables there. Apparently this is forbidden, though- only smokers may use this space, not diners. The staff didn't know why. This smoking courtyard explains the bad smells coming into our room, though, as we were directly above it. Do not stay at this hotel if you care about having a cool room or fresh air in your room. They want to save money by not running the AC, and don't care about their guests. AVOID!!!
