La Chaumière, Demeure d'hôtes

Charming and picturesque villa in a small little town. The stay was comfortable and the owners were very lovely people. The view is amazing and it’s a great place to relax and close drive to some more known villages

Francine and Bruno were welcoming and amazing hosts - going above and beyond during our short stay of 3 nights. The lodging is centrally located in Lauris and has amazing views from the very top floor (it's a hike, but if you don't mind stairs, the view is worth it!). Can you believe we got two flat tires while in France?! Francine and Bruno were exceptional in helping us out with roadside assistance since our limited French language capabilities were not up to the task. Francine spent more time than she should have on the phone helping us secure towing and a taxi cab. We cannot thank them enough. Despite the car trouble, they helped make our stay enjoyable.

Wonderful and very attentive hosts! Large, comfortable and well appointed bedroom. Great breakfast in the patio with beautiful view.

Nothing

The surroundings are absolutely fantastic, and the stunning view from the terrace is truly breathtaking. Unfortunately, this is where the superlatives end. I rarely leave reviews, especially negative ones, as I usually prefer to give places the benefit of the doubt and a chance to improve. I also believe that nothing has to be perfect and that mistakes can happen on both sides. The real question is how such situations are handled. In our case, unfortunately, it was handled very poorly.

Due to not reading the arrival instructions carefully enough and an unexpectedly long car journey, we missed the designated check-in time. The way we were treated afterwards and the tone used by the owner immediately ruined the atmosphere of what was supposed to be a lovely trip. Considering that the owners live on-site, I genuinely do not understand why checking us in at 9:30 p.m. was such a major issue, especially since we sincerely apologised for being late. The facial expressions and attitude we encountered were honestly quite unpleasant and made us feel very unwelcome. We were also asked to commit to an exact breakfast time. While this may work for some guests, it felt rather strange during a holiday, when one expects a sense of freedom and relaxation within given time frame. After the experience of the previous evening, we were almost anxious about arriving even a couple of minutes late. Breakfast itself was another disappointment. If you are expecting to enjoy good French cheese for breakfast, you may be surprised to find only processed cheese and Kiri available. When we asked for eggs (we had not been offered any), we received one egg each, without being asked whether we would like more. On the positive side, the homemade jam was delicious and we could help ourselves to it. The terrace, despite offering an absolutely magnificent view, is neglected and simply dirty, as can be seen in the photos. The owner of the property was very kind, but the prospect of interacting with the lady owner again is enough for me not to recommend staying here.
