Exe Valley Lodge

For 3 nights the lodge was a great place to stay. It was clean and very comfortable. It was so peaceful and the beds were so comfortable we slept really well. The lodge does need updating but having 2 dogs with us it was ideal considering the weather was so bad. The lounge was comfortable and relaxing and the bonus was having the Hot Tub which was turned on clean and ready to use which we did. The surroundings are lovely, with a garden, table and bbq for the summer months.

I gave an 8 for 3 reasons, firstly it was dark when we arrived and it is literally pitch black and very difficult to find. It’s not marked on the main road at all, we actually just managed to stumble across it and pulled into the cottage at the bottom who the owner had to explain where we had to go. Secondly it’s a very steep rocky driveway to get up to the lodge and there were no lights on the drive or up at the lodge either. It was torrential rain when we arrived and the area was water logged. It was hard to see where to park in the dark to miss the puddles. At the foot of the ramp to the lodge there was a massive muddy puddle which was unavoidable to step into so we had to carry the dogs in and we had to keep jumping across to try and avoid the mud which was extremely hard for my elderly parents and the wooden ramp was also very slippy. It was unfortunate that we had this rain non stop for 3 days but graveling the area or extending the driveway gravel up to the ramp would at least stop the muddy puddle forming and walking it all into the lodge. Also there definitely needs something like tarmac strips adding to the ramp which could avoid a nasty slip. It would also help to have some sort of pathway to the hot tub even rubber mats as it was just a muddy water logged garden. Lastly there were no complimentary toilet rolls, soap or washing up liquid provided. This caught us out because other lodges we’ve stayed in there’s usually always miniature soaps and washing up liquid provided. Other than that we would stay again in the summer months because we loved the area and we were very comfortable there.

The location was great with beautiful views. Our stay was very relaxing.

The shower room had a strange smell due, we think, to a leak.

well kitted out, plenty of cupboard space. having two toilets is handy. good location for exploring into exmoor. nice quiet secluded location

the mattress was uncomfortable. the access road is very steep and uneven and poorly marked at the entrance
