The location is great: very close to the seafront, lots of lovely restaurants, and an easy walk into the city and interesting ruins etc. The apartment is spacious, AC is powerful, and the balconies are a good plus. There is paid parking a short walk away that is convenient and €15 for 24hrs. Good communication from the hosts.

There is no chopping board which makes preparing meals difficult, and not many utensils. There is no strainer or sieve which is bizarre considering most of what we’d like to cook in Sicily is pasta! We chose this place due to the kitchen as we are away for a long time and didn’t want to eat in expensive restaurants every night. The water from the taps is also odd-tasting - make sure to bring your own bottled water. There were also ants in the apartment the day we arrived, including on the kitchen work surfaces, where dirty rings from utensils had attracted them (see pics). We had to throw a load of bread away that was crawling with them after leaving it (in the bag!) for the day. There is no holder for the shower head over the bath, so when showering stood-up, you end up spreading water everywhere as the bath isn’t that large. We would have loved to have a bath itself, but the plug/drain doesn’t seal, so the bath doesn’t fill. Again, choosing a place based on pictures such as a nice, freestanding bath, only to find it doesn’t work is disappointing. Furthermore, due to the nature of Sicily, having drains that do not seal means that the sulphurous smell from the old sewers fills the bathroom overnight which is unpleasant. The floors were very dusty/dirty from the day we arrived which meant walking to bed tracked dirt onto the sheets. Further, there were stains and hairs in the bed linen from before we’d arrived (see pictures). We also could not enjoy the balconies for 2 of the 3 nights we stayed as there was an enormous diesel generator in the street that made the entire neighbourhood hum.
