Ansitz Velseck-Residence Hotel

The hotel is placed in a fabulous position, with a direct and amazing view of the Dolomites. The owner was extremely kind to upgrade our room to a honeymoon suite, which had a private wooden hot tub (amazing for real!). This we appreciated immensely, as it changed our stay for the better. The room was clean, organized, and furnished with taste. The sauna and pool are also new and tastefully designed. Unfortunately, the opening times are extremely limited, and one rarely gets to use those facilities (as explained below).

Breakfast was included, but it is held in an underground room with no sunlight, different from the beautiful dinner space (that you don't even get to see/appreciate if you choose not to dine in their restaurant). Since this is the space shown in the listing, one expects to have all meals there. Starting your day in an artificially lit, noisy, bunker-like space is not appropriate for a facility of this kind. Choices are also quite limited: all pre-packaged foods, yoghurt, and only a few savoury options. Staff are kind but overwhelmed, so for two days in a row we did not even have the chance to get coffee from them. Unfortunately, it did not meet our standards, especially for a four-star hotel at this price. As per the sauna/spa area, the spaces are certainly new and beautiful, but the pool was extremely cold, especially for being partly outdoors. The opening times are extremely problematic: nothing is open before 3PM and it closes at 7. The first day we arrived just in time to stay 10 minutes in the too cold pool, the second day we literally rushed home only to find that the pool closed early and the third day, even if we decided to stay in the hotel in the morning, we came to realize that nothing is open until 3PM. We ended up wasting the entire day. I wonder why they built those areas only to have them run for only 4 hours a day. We had definitely read about the owner's personality before arriving: we can confirm he can come off as being arrogant and condescending. I am not sure if he is like this only with women, but he definitely needs to work on his customer-service skills and have people relax at their own terms without bothering them with unrequested opinions and passive-agressive comments.

The hotel was beautiful. the views from the apartment room was something we will remember forever. Property is very well taken care of and also has an indoor garage which was very comfortable

We were very disappointed with how we were welcomed and later treated by the host. Upon arrival, we noticed immediate hostility from the host, who we understand is the owner of the property. He walked us through the apartment and gave us all the information very quickly and in Italian. He told one of the guests that she should "really educate herself on saunas" just because she asked if she could enter the sauna in her swimwear when she said she was uncomfortable going nude (the host said that the sauna was a nude area). We understood his position, but he did not need to be so passive agressive. When we asked for a recap of some information, the host would always say "as I already told you..." and proceeded to give us the information with quite an arrogant tone. To add insult to injury, the night before we were meant to check out, we had an accident with our car and we were stranded on a main road about half an hour from the area. We called the hotel hoping they could assist us with booking us a taxi to come to the hotel and a taxi the next day to the airport, and instead of assistance, he was more concerned for the pending bill we had with him. He gave us a number which was unavailable and refused to help us any further until he was paid for the dinner we had. He exerted frustration at us for something that was completely out of our control. He ended the call by warning us to call him as soon as we got home that night to ensure that we did not run off without payment. We called him as soon as we arrived (10PM) after a 4 hour breakdown, wanting nothing more to do with this man after such an outrageous reaction at people who were only asking for help. We were very disappointed in his language and behaviour toward us. We saw previous reviews commenting about his behaviour, but we kept an open mind, until we were treated so poorly. In the host's own words, he could use some lessons on hospitality. A bitter end to an otherwise lovely stay.
