Travelodge Kyoto Shijo Karasuma - Former Travelodge Kyoto Shijo Omiya

This stay was very comfortable and perfect for staying in Kyoto. It was very clean and the staff were very friendly. There are great facilities in the building including laundry room, ice machine, coffee machine. There are plenty of places to eat and lots of coffee shops locally. Located very close to train to Arashiyama area.

This property is about 15-20 min walk from Gion, Kyoto. It is well connected with trains and transport options however good to be aware if you plan on walking. This wasn’t a problem but something to consider.

The hotel has a great location! Very convenient. The staff here was super friendly and helpful too.

A few downsides was that the bathroom wasn’t fully clean, more around the shower area. The air con in the room wasn’t working to properly, and would sometimes smell a little odd. However apart from that it was good!

At first, we booked a room for 4. Very small space. Not enough room for luggages. Worst of all, on the 2nd night, a cockroach crawled out from under the bed and we have to killed it. When we approached the service counter and told them of the incident, the staff just said, “So?” We were upset with the remark and insisted for a change of room or rooms. Reluctantly, they gave us 2 rooms instead of one room for 4. And the room for 2 is actually roughly the same size as the room for 4. On another day, while collecting towels for the rooms at the service counter, another cockroach crawled out from behind the service counter. This time round, the service counter person was apologetic and quickly caught it. We were again, quite shocked by it which left us wondering if the hotel has an infestation. I must say both incidents were upsetting.
