Best stay ever

This Takayama Inn was so unique and special. I couldn’t imagine our trip to Japan back in May without having stayed here. It felt cozy, beautiful, authentic, and fun all at the same time. My husband and I loved the location and ended up spending our entire time in Takayama nearby within walking distance without running out of things to do. We stayed for 2 nights but we easily could have stayed for 3. Initially I planned to go visit Hida Folk Village or Shirakawago but there was so much to enjoy right nearby and I preferred the slower lived-in pace. In the morning, I could wake up in this beautiful museum, grab a coffee and snack from the Family Mart right down the street, then stroll through the old Edo period town and it was completely vacant - truly magical. Of course, the morning market was a must-do also (and better to go before the tour buses arrive). I often felt intimidated by other spots in Japan about where we would go eat, but never at this location! There’s so many approachable nearby options if you just wander around. In the evening, we’d watch movies on the projector and eat Hida beef skewers from the stand directly next door. We also got dinner once from directly across the street and grilled our own beef dinner which was also delicious! Takayama food never disappointed! This is the only place in Japan I’d regularly leave our accommodation on my own without my husband because it just felt sooooo comfortable and walkable. But then being at the Inn itself was so amazingly comfortable, relaxing, and atmospheric that sometimes I didn’t even want to leave. The semi-open bath was a sweet treat to enjoy at the end of a day and everything was very clean. Absolute 10/10 experience for us. Would highly recommend this Inn. The owner also was very accommodating and friendly. He let us check in early, gave us a thorough tour when we arrived, and even gave us some sweet treats for our honeymoon stay.

The location is perfect. The cleanest place I’ve ever been, and I stayed at a lot of places around the world. The shower room also the best I’ve ever used. Would definitely stay there again.

I liked everything but if I had to make a few adjustments I would install a countertop at the wall in the kitchen area so the utensils fridge and microwave could be placed on top to make the width of the area a little narrow making the walking area in the kitchen a little more spacious. Maybe add a expresso machine with coffee pods to make more practical and less cluttered. The kitchen is very small so maybe some adjustments the place would be perfect.

The location was perfect. On a very charming street. Walkable to everything in town- train station, morning markets, shrines, etc.
