About this house rental
The “Big House” is part of an incredible 8-acre private estate with a shared private beach, walking trails, cliff views, a shared deep water dock, and even a freshwater swimming pond. The Big House is a 3,000 sqft fully winterized year-round home built in 1947 by my grandfather. The house features a large living room with an attached porch and an incredible waterfront view. There is a modern kitchen with a breakfast nook, a large dining room, five bedrooms (4 queens, two long singles), two full baths, and one half bath. A section of our deck is screened to escape mosquitoes and provide some shade.
You are only a short walk through open fields to a shared private ocean beach, which is perfect for launching your kayak. From there, you can continue on to a shared private dock that is great for swimming. Our dock is located in the local harbor at Lookout Point and faces west, offering fantastic sunsets and expansive views of the islands. This is an active lobstering harbor, so you can purchase fresh lobsters right next door!

The Big House was absolutely amazing. We had a party of ten, and at no point did we ever feel like the house was crowded. The pictures on the site really don't do it justice in terms of how much space there is.One member of our party was elderly and needed a walker to get around. Having a first floor bedroom with its own bathroom and walk-in shower was perfect for them.There are tons of activities to do inside and around the house. They provided plenty of board games and puzzles to keep us busy on rainy days and there is a barn full of outdoor games. The ping pong table in the barn was a great find that we didn't realize was there. It made for a lot of good times and also occasionally a lot of yelling. The competition was hot!Susan and Ned were excellent hosts. We got in a little later than expected on our first night and they had made sure to turn on some lights for us so we could find our way around the house. There were plenty of notes around the house to explain where things were and how things worked. There was really no guesswork involved on our part.On our way home, we started a discussion on where the Big House ranked on our list of potential repeat vacarion locations. It went straight to the top at #1, even beating out some past beach locations that were popular with the young ones.This is an excellent location with excellent hosts. Anyone looking for a large space, for their big family, and wanting something a little remote, should consider the Big House.

Beautiful, spacious home on an amazing property on the Harpswell coast. Well-appointed kitchen, lovely dock for sunset gazing, screened-in porch for buggy days. We only wish we could have stayed longer!
