Barossa Valley’s Captain Rodda’s Cottage

A beautifully preserved old cottage, with real history and charm. The location is great for Angaston and the wider Barossa, and it was very quiet (other than the various bird calls). There are some fascinating books about the area, and an amazing collection of historical bric-a-brac that really puts you in the time. The new bathroom, however, is spacious and well-appointed, and the kitchen has almost everything you could want (lovely jams, but I couldn't find Vegemite). The garden was magical, with parrots in the back and honey-eaters in the front roses. This is a place to stay with one or two couples who want to talk, relax and see the area.

Was surprised there was no Wifi available, when the mobile phone data connection is tenuous. However, that just made us talk and read instead of doom-scrolling all night.

No dishwasher or clothes dryer, but not a big issue for us.

This little gem is a brilliant find indeed! My friend and I stayed here for 4 nights and honestly did not want to leave! The home was incredible embellished with the most beautiful knicknacks and heirlooms, I genuinely spent a good few hours just looking at everything! The bed I slept in was phenomenonal, with reports the same from my friend! The yard was perfect for the dogs to stretch their legs and the complementary bits and bobs were thoroughly thought through and appreciated, truly a home away from home!

Honestly hard to fault the place, perhaps the side gate could be a little more secure, but really that's me being a helicopter parent with my dogs!

It was quirky with old knick-knacks everywhere. Had all the amenities you need. Nice enough for a short stay.
