Good location and convenient to everything we wanted to do.
Lots of things were left unfinished. Shower control faucet was missing (although shower worked), old doorknobs that didn’t work were not removed. Towels were old and coarse, blankets were not warm and were old. Bed was very uncomfortable.

Had a great stay, easy instructions to enter, comfortable room. It’s so nice staying at a house with character and everything you need to relax and cook.
Thanks!

This old fashioned house serves as a glimpse into Uta’s work and influence, and has thought provoking art everywhere. The shared living space provides privacy and feels comfortable when occupied. I absolutely will return!
I wish my room included a television, but I understand not having one for respect to other guests with noise.

This property was very unique, loved all of the artwork, check in was super simple, property very communicative and replied quickly. I was concerned being a solo traveler going to Detroit. The area was not bad at all, felt safe the entire trip.

Convenient to downtown. Not the Ritz but neither was the price.
Choked on Fabreeze with a hint of moth ball.

I loved my stay at the Art House — the vibe and ambience were exactly as advertised. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re craving something real and artistically stimulating, this is the place.
Uta is a very engaged host who makes sure your needs are taken care of. I created a bit of a messy situation during my stay, and she was very professional and focused on resolution rather than blame.
I’d definitely stay again if I’m back in Detroit.
I personally liked everything.
The neighbourhood might seem somewhat intimidating at first, but it grows on you. Regular street smarts go a long way.

I loved the location. Quiet and safe street, conveniently located close to downtown with plenty of street parking. The house itself is very clean, cozy and well organized. I LOVED all the art. Uta is a great host. When I’m back in Detroit, I know where I’ll be staying.

After I figured out where I was my main reason for staying there was only 10 minutes away. Loved the owner sent me all the arts going on in the Detroit area. The house was clean and in a definitely quiet neighborhood. It had been years since I had been to detroit but had no idea of the area. So I was a bit nervous. But did find the whole neighborhood lite up when I returned in the dark. The art was fun to see.
Again not traveling like this often it did feel lonely since the host was not there. Not their fault since they were available by e-mail and phone number. also guess I did not know or understand the rules of the house though I was told to make myself at home. it looked like someone else was there but I had no clue so grateful they were quiet.

We enjoyed the art. It was very eclectic. We were glad we stayed here as it gave us an insight into some of Detroit's neighbourhoods that we wouldn't have gotten if we had stayed downtown.
We had read in other reviews how lovely Ute is and so we were disappointed not to have met her.

Upon arriving at this property the owner was not there and we let ourselves in, it was just not as described and not for us. the first area we saw looked like a very untidy, dirty garage, upon entering the property the same just flowed just not a nice comfortable vibe. No aircon, area did not feel very safe.

Let's be honest, this place is not for everybody. It's a quiet neighborhood that is just starting to come out of despair. The property is older and you rent a bedroom that is quite small. But if you're a little more adventurous and you dig art, it's cool. If you're an artist who has hit the road on a tight budget, you're going to love it. If you're more of a luxury hotel traveler, you're not going to dig it.
I thought it was great. It was an experience until itself.
Small bed, but the room wasn't much bigger than a California king. It's ok, because I like sleeping with my GF.

We were in Detroit to see art and experience the alternative cultural scene. Our host is connected in the local community of up and coming artists. She told us about an art opening during the two evenings we were in town (weekday!) places to go to hear music, and other activities and locations. She made our very short visit much more exciting than we would have had on our own. She had a casual style but communicated clearly and quickly. The location was an easy drive from lots of places. We had a car. Parking was also easy. The neighborhood was by no means bustling and upscale but we felt very safe and we were close to lots of interesting places. I felt that we saw the genuine Detroit. All of the things that we expected to work (shower, sink, etc) did work just fine. We had an extra heater to beef up the house furnace and we were cozy. If you like artsy, funky places (we do!) this is the place.
My husband would have liked a couple of extra hangers and a larger surface or our large suitcases. We did have a small desk/ table in the room already. We were fine with it, but if you are a neatnik, you might not feel comfortable. There's a lot going on and it is an old house.

The host was hospitable and offered a lot of local info. The location is nice. Free use of the kitchen which was appreciated. Grocery store nearby.
The shower knob was broken off and difficult to use. The space was crowded with the host’s esoteric art work, even lined up in the hallway against the walls. The bedding and towel were thin. I thought it was way too expensive given everything

Uta was an amazing host! Always willing to help and share. The Arthouse is literally an Arthouse. Art can be seen everywhere - inside and out. Uta is great at communicating! She also took me on a night out with a friend, so much fun! The location is close to museums, bars/underground spots and a main street. There is a bus line as well.
The kitchen area bothered me a bit as it could be more organized/clean. Many little nats and smells, hard to eat in there. Also ants. Unsure if it's the heat or not. Other than that no complaints.
