Room was large and comfortable with excellent shower, comfy bed and plenty of room. Beautiful view down the Langdale Valley. Excellent breakfast. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good wifi
Residents car park is not big enough. Managed to get a space but that's because I have a small car.

Very good quality breakfast, and plenty of cooked options.
The staff are great at their jobs and great fun too.
The residents lounge is lovely and warm

Amazing location, lots of character very good breakfast and attentive staff. Francesca could not have done more to make us welcome. Great lounge with views down the valley and a log burner.

Staff and location are great
The room and corridor has mould in them. The walls were stained and had screw holes in them. The shower was cold and only went hot for a couple of seconds then never went hot again. The sink was blocked and cracked. The fire alarm went off at 7am due to a room on the second floor having a hot shower so we all had to go outside in the snow.

Loved the location
Just a bit too hot at night

The location was surreal, perfect for what we were looking for on our road trip. The best place to be for the Stickle Tarn walk and had the total English-side ambience we were after. The staff were genuine, friendly and invested in us having a good stay. Had dinner downstairs in the pub — generous servings and delicious food. We paid for the breakfast £14pp and were not disappointed at our Full Highland Breakfast, kept us fuelled for our big trip! They also offer a packed lunch which is a great idea if you’re looking to hike the following day. Overall we were exceptionally pleased with our stay.
You could hear people chatting in the neighbouring rooms and hallways, not bad, just notable.

Good location
No heating or hot water. Mould everywhere in the property and when we spoke to the manager about it he just made it our problem and stated that he had to deal with it so we did too. At the end of the stay we were promised a nights refunded and yet I am still waiting on this a month later and they refuse to co operate with booking.com to get it sorted.
Unless you want to stay in a cold, damp and mouldy room with staff who couldn’t care less I wouldn’t stay at this hotel

Great location for walking. Food and beer was excellent. Warm & Cosy, Lively characterful locals bar, Lounge with fire & board games. Cafe/bar opposite if fancied a change. Helpful staff, on bus route to Ambleside etc. Weather forecast for the specific area printed out each day on reception.
Dining/breakfast area/s a bit grim. Could do with an upgrade to look more in keeping, like they had always been there, rather than an unloved transport cafe. Old hotel, so no super noise insulation to deal with the occasional insomniac guest & their hyperactive bathroom activity in the small hours. First night, was lovely and quiet, however. Fire door on route to main stairs squeaked embarrassingly loudly.

The breakfast was fantastic
The mattress was a bit hard but apart from that everything else was pretty good

Location was great and the room was comfortable. Although the menu choices for evening meals were limited, the food was good too,
It was irritating to have to fill out a form for room service. This was not explained when we arrived so we did not fill out the form and the room was not serviced as a result on the next day. On the second day, when we did fill out the form, the instructions were ignored - the beds were not made and the hand towels were not replaced as requested.

A little tired but didn’t effect our stay and we will absolutely be returning

The staff were fantastic Hope and Simon could not have made us feel more welcome. The property was clean. In a beautiful location. Perhaps needed a little TLC in certain areas but very good value for money. We will certainly return. evening meal was excellent.
The shower head would not stay on the holder so it had to be handheld. And the breakfast was quite cold. Very tasty but just a bit cold.

Nice room, warm despite of the freezing temperatures. Nice bar and nice evening meal. Great breakfast
Car park was a bit small and some of the other guests couldn’t park properly so we had to use the NT car park just down the road for part of stay

Pleasantly surprised to find a gem of a hotel . Overall a very pleasant stay. Attentive and friendly staff. Good food . Cosy room with great views. Location was excellent for our first time hike up to Stickle Tarn. Will return again.
They ran out of Fish and Chips.

The tv in the room didn’t work, but we took an iPad which we connected to the WiFi and were able to watch.

Location is amazing- even in terrible weather, it was a lovely place to be. The younger members of staff were great, and clearly doing multiple jobs. Having a pub on site was also lovely, and had a great atmosphere. Pub food was good. There's another bar/restaurant over the road, which was unexpected in such an isolated spot, and offered a bit of variety, though we preferred the Dungeon Ghyll bar, which has a good atmosphere, courtesy of the staff. Great view out of the bedroom window; enjoyed hearing the river and watching the baby rabbits in the mornings. This is a super quiet location, and the staff ensure the bar is closed down with time for guests to sleep well.
Very long wait to check out; the on older staff member at the counter disappeared multiple times and left several of us Qing. Wallpaper literally peeling off the walls in the hallway -can tell once upon a time it was nicely decorated. There was black mould in the room- both the shower area in the bathroom (which would be easily cleaned away) and on the wall in the bedroom, by the door (perhaps to be expected in a property of this age and in this location). Breakfast was decent enough, though both mornings it took a long time to be served- had to go and find staff to order. Multiple cups, glasses and cutlery were dirty, though think they'd been through the dishwasher. It all feels very run down and dated decor-wise, which is a shame, as the building itself, and location are superb. This was on the cheaper end of the price scale, so expected less frills but cleanliness is important! Yes, we could have raised this during our stay but when you're trying to relax, the hassle of having to ask for clean cups, clean bathroom, etc. isn't welcomed- it should be as standard.

The location, very friendly staff and great bar. Very good evening dinner
More choice for breakfast e.g soft fruit, croissants

Location was ideal for what we wanted, the food was nice, the room was nice and decent size
Limited menu and prices were on the expensive side, tv 4 channels available when working due to poor signal connected to wifi would be better rather than aerial. Mould and damp in bathroom and on hallway towards room. Friendly staff but hard to find as they seemed overworked would be better with more staff on, example bartender changing bedding on arrival.

The hotel is very well located in Langdale and ideal for walkers. The staff
were very friendly and helpful. The bed and furniture were comfortable. The menu was very limited but adequate and the food quite good. The real ale was excellent. The hotel, for all its faults was good value for money.
The hotel is very old and the decor has become tired looking. I understand that the property is currently for sale. Unfortunately, when we arrived late on Saturday afternoon, the boiler had broken down and we were without hot water. Since we were only staying one night, this did not affect us badly,

The room was warm, spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and warm with an excellent shower. In the bedroom there was more than enough closet and drawer space and we had a lovely view of the garden.
The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The attached bar with log fire was great and a good range of drinks. Breakfast choices were great from different cereals to a variety of hot food plus toast and condiments. Juices and choices of tea and coffee. We would both higjly recommend the eggs benedict.
With regards the staff we would give a massive shout out to 3 members in particular although every member deserve praise. Simon and Hope were both outstanding plus the lady who checked us in on Tuesday and served breakfast 3 days.
The hotel location gives rise to a quiet stay with local walks and also if you want to go further afield to Ambleside and Windermere, there is a stagecoach bus every 2 hours with a maximum fare of £3 or free for pensioners with bus pass like me! Be aware that mobile reception is non existent due to the surrounding mountains but the free hotel WiFi is great. Also sky sports in the bar was a definite bonus for us on Friday night!
Would we stay again? Most definitely.
There was nothing that we didn't like

Had a great stay at this lovely hotel, set in beautiful countryside.
The hotel was warm and comfortable and have stayed here previously and certainly will again.
Ample parking and the staff are always very pleasant and helpful.
The hotel has a great bar and had the log burner roaring and had a great breakfast to start the day before a lovely walk.

The location is fantastic, We love the Langdales and we have stayed here a few times previously. Holly, I think her name was, was amazing and seemed to be busy serving food, the bar and checking guests in, all with a smile on her face and nothing was too much trouble.
The room was disappointing. Stains on the walls, damp and mould on the wall and ceiling, the radiator didn't work so the room was cold, the curtains were hanging off the hooks on the rail and the door wouldn't lock from the outside, so we had to take all our valuable items to dinner.
Dinner was very disappointing. Only one vegan option on the menu, not what was advertised on the website. £17.50 for a sweet potato and chickpea curry! It's a good job we weren't staying another night as we would be eating the same meal again!

A beautiful hotel in the Lake District situated in a building dating back to 1862. Comfortable rooms and very friendly staff who were friendly and super helpful. Hope, Adam, and Francesca make everyone at home and completely at ease. Great food and a really nice bar. A hidden gem.
They could improve their billing system and make it more efficient.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They waited for us to check-in for over 1 hour and 15 minutes due to traffic issues we had faced. We were very grateful. The rooms were decent and we had a large room.
Unfortunately they start serving breakfast at 0800 which isn't ideal if you need to leave early for a hike or meeting.

The hotel has a lot of character and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The location is a great starting point for numerous hikes of different levels and the views of Langdale are amazing.

Location is good
Shower door was broken at bottom, shower tiles have black mould in grout. Window did not close fully. Staff rude when asked questions and on booking out. Finally wifi is slow and just generally rubbish

Amazing location, plenty of hikes right at the doorstep. We also walked a little further up the valley and did a pub crawl back! Enjoyed this location a lot more than the busy towns in the lake district
Is an older building so the walls are a touch thin, but this adds to the charm of staying somewhere like this

Location and lovely staff
Dated in places but the price was reflecting of this.
