As locations go there's few better but it's a lovely hotel nestled under the Langdale pikes that has kept a traditional feel to it unlike so many chains these days. The staff were exceptional, friendly and could not do enough for you. The breakfast was excellent with a full Cumbria if you choose and some excellent locally baked sourdough bread ( other choices were available plus cereals, yoghurt etc)
The new owners have only been in a week I believe but have planned renovations.
Oh and there's some decent beers!
