About this house rental
A Grade II listed Georgian family home with 6 bedrooms, beautiful established gardens leading on to the River Swale full of character and peace. A kitchen with balcony, grand drawing room with baby grand piano, a large dining room and living room with log burner fireplace, you won't help but fall in love with this charming house. The romantic master bedroom includes a four poster bed with a generous ensuite 2-person bath and walk-in shower overlooking the gardens and the river.
It has spectacular views of Round Howe, a National Trust area of outstanding beauty with beautiful woodland and riverside walks and fishing rights at the bottom of the garden.
A short walk from the centre of Richmond with its wonderful restaurants, shops, cafes, historic attractions and local cinema. Sleeps 13 guests.
The space:
This Grade II listed historic family home retains many of its original features but provides easy modern living with a mix of period and modern furnishings. It was built in 1826 and was a working paper mill, hence its proximity to the beautiful River Swale. There are historic, special places and surprises throughout the house and in the gardens to explore.
The main living area is on the first floor providing stunning views of the river Swale and gardens. These consist of a Drawing Room with baby grand piano, Dining Room, Living Room with wood burner and Smart TV, Kitchen/breakfast room with a two oven Aga and electric oven and utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
Upstairs on the top floor there is the Master Bedroom with a four poster bed and en-suite bathroom with a luxurious 2 person bath and a large walk in shower with beautiful views down the river and a television. There are also two other bedrooms (one king and one superking) and family bathroom on this floor with a free standing bath and a walk-in shower.
On the ground floor there is a beautiful entrance hall with a sweeping staircase and three more bedrooms, one of which is self-contained and has its own private entrance, kitchenette, en-suite walk-in shower room and superking bed. Another is a kingsize bedroom with an en-suite walk-in shower room and the third bedroom has a double and single bed in it overlooking the nature pond. There is also a very large space which can be used as an office or a yoga/exercise studio on the ground floor.
Guest access:
Guests can access the whole house and gardens and will have this space to themselves for the entirety of the stay.
Other things to note:
There is Sky Q TV.
Large open room used for events on the ground floor and can be used as a yoga/exercise studio or office.
Full use of the gardens and private wooded walk.
The cellar is full of logs and coal which are free to use.
There is a wood burner in the living room and gas fires in both the sitting and dining room.
There is a travel cot and highchair available.
There are two ponds in the grounds and a river at the end of the garden with access in two places.
Up to 13 cars can park at the house.
Barbecue available.

Had a fantastic weekend at Howe Villa to celebrate my birthday with our adult children, travelling from different directions. Lovely spacious house, felt both luxurious (flowers in the hall and kitchen, bottle of birthday bubbly) and homely, things like family photos around makes it feel more like you’re staying with friends. Gorgeous garden with steps down to river and plenty parking. Three sitting rooms, so the sports fans weren’t in everyone else’s way! Master bedroom beautiful, very comfortable four poster bed with lovely linen and towels, morning sunshine, and a lovely bathroom (roomy bath and shower). Five more double beds - two top floor ones share a bathroom, ground floor ones two are en suite, last room is a little inconvenient for bathroom. Loved the kitchen - has an Aga as well as an electric oven and a plug in induction hob for those not used to an Aga. Two dishwashers was a godsend for such a big group. Really well equipped, plentiful crockery etc. Lovely little balcony off the kitchen was a super place to sit with a small group. We could all just squeeze round the table in the kitchen - the formal dining room would have been too small for us all. We weren’t rushed out - checkout was 11 but Sarah said we were welcome to stay until 12. Thank you for making it a very special stay in Richmond. I would love to come back! (Actually I’d love to live there….except for the heating and maintenance bills!!)

Another wonderful stay at Howe Villa. A beautiful home situated on the river, a short distance from Richmond. Perfectly placed for exploring this area of North Yorkshire or for kicking back and simply enjoying the house and gardens.
Between the kitchen/ diner, the dining room, the sitting room and the television room there is so much space that it properly suits 13 people staying for a week. There’s a huge room on the ground floor we hardly touched, but if the kids had been younger would have proved useful.
Can’t recommend this house more highly.
