Welcome to Stillwater Retreat—your waterfront lakefront escape on a quiet cove at Smith Mountain Lake.
Designed for easy, laid-back lake days, this pet-friendly home offers direct water access, a private dock, and space to relax both inside and out. Whether you’re kayaking in the morning, spending the afternoon on the water, or unwinding by the fire pit in the evening, everything here is set up for a simple, memorable stay.
Outdoor living is a highlight:
Enjoy a spacious deck with lake views, a private dock for swimming, fishing, or tying up your boat, and a custom-built lakeside fire pit area with Adirondack seating—perfect for s’mores and evenings under the stars. Guests also have access to 2 kayaks and a paddleboard to explore the quiet cove.
Inside, there’s room for everyone to unwind:
The main level features a comfortable living area with lake views and a gas fireplace, along with a fully equipped kitchen and dining space. Downstairs, the game room includes a pool table, foosball, darts, board games, and a second TV lounge—ideal for families and groups to spread out.
Sleeping areas are designed for comfort, and a dedicated workspace in the master bedroom includes a desk, chair, and power/USB access for remote work.
Location makes it easy:
Walk to a nearby gas station and Vinny’s Italian Restaurant, or take a short drive to Bridgewater Plaza for lakeside dining, shops, mini golf, arcade, and boat rentals. Grocery stores like Kroger and Food Lion are just minutes away.

- The driveway and path to the dock are steep (typical for lakefront homes). Steps have been improved with wider treads and a sturdy handrail on the main section.

This place is so convenient to all of the great things! It’s right across the street from aloha art experiences. It’s a half mile from Bridgewater Plaza. It’s in a very quiet Cove. All of the rooms were spacious and we had all the fun kid amenities that we needed. We’ll definitely try to rent from them again.

My family just returned after a wonderful week at the Hakuna Matata house. The property is just as described with a very well stocked kitchen (all pots/pans, cooking utensils and condiments you could want), three bedrooms/two full baths (with showers that have great hot water and water pressure), indoor and outdoor seating for meals and a fun room with lots of games and a pool table (that we used a lot for the first two days of inclement weather). The driveway is steep but easily navigated if you go slow which is a good idea so you don’t miss the turn off Rt.122. Likewise, the steps down to the firepit seating and dock are steep but certainly walkable unless you have mobility issues. There is a “baby gate” at the top of the stairs to the lower level of the house but families with young children may find the staircase worrisome and there is no bathtub for “little kid cleaning”. The quiet “no-wake” cove has more people swimming and kayaking then power boat traffic. Rest assured that you will not hear road noise when you are inside the house. On our first day we had an issue with the BBQ grill and reached out to the owner who was immediately responsive and has decided to replace the older grill.We highly recommend this rental property.
