About this house rental

The Little Mill is a former threshing mill which has been converted into a beautiful open plan living space with three floors; a loft bedroom upstairs, open plan living area lined with books, artwork and antiques, and toilet in the middle floor. Downstairs has another lounge area with a wood stove, open plan kitchen and dining, bathroom with a shower and toilet and a private double bedroom. Comfortably sleeping two couples in the bedrooms, the two lounge areas (middle and lower levels) can also accommodate four more guests with pull-out beds. Pets are welcome in consultation with the owner for an additional fee (5 pounds per dog per night).

There are beaches just minutes walk away with caves, rock arches and fascinating geological formations. The stunning scenery has even captivated Hollywood film stars, with Mel Gibson's Hamlet being filmed in the adjoining fields.

Good for solo business travellers wanting space and atmosphere, a cosy getaway for couples or family travellers wanting an authentic rustic experience. Guests can enjoy beach walks, fishing, foraging, wild swimming and dolphin spotting. Minutes from Stonehaven where there are shops, places to eat out, golf links and historic Dunnottar Castle.

We had a wonderful time at The Little Mill. Moya is so very welcoming, and very generously picked us up from Stonehaven and dropped us off at the end of our trip. She was wonderful to talk to, and graciously gave us a tour within Stonehaven and around the Mill of where the bus stops we would want and where the walking trails to Dunnotar Castle, Muchall, Doonie’s Point (so very worth it - see the photos below!). The mill house itself is charming, comfortable, and well stocked with whatever you may need. We were provided with cereals, bread, crumpets, fresh fruit, milk and orange juice upon arrival. Tea, coffee, rice, pasta, some spices, and much more are in the cabinets as well. It seems many of us leave our extra pantry items for the next person (as we did ourselves, too). Well stocked with cooking utensils, cooking ware, dishes, cups, etc. We were delighted to use to woodfire oven, and spent our evenings curled up on the couch. Everything is provided for starting and maintaining the fire. For those for whom it matters, wifi/internet was fast with no dead spots within the property. We were also delighted with the geese and peacocks/peahens that freely wander the property.Truly our favourite stay in Scotland, and the perfect venue for a quiet rest and recovery or home base for activities. There’s more than enough to entertain you for days both inside and outside on the property!

Loved the property. Which we booked for more days. Felt like a home away from home.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my partner and our dog. We had an amazing time! The Mill itself is beautiful and well equipped and its surroundings are absolutely stunning. We could not recommend the place enough if you are looking for a quiet getaway (so long as you don't mind peacocks. Haha!) with lots of local walks. The host Moya was very lovely, helpful and welcoming. With lots of local knowledge. We would definitely stay again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a nice cottage in a stunning location. Very minor points - no oven gloves or hand towels in bathrooms.ThanksDavid

We just loved our stay at the Mill. Moya was the loveliest host and made sure we were looked after. She also made sure we found the place and helped us find our first dinner. The peacocks and geese greeted us each morning which was so fun.The setting was idyllic as was the accomodation. It is a unique eclectic mix of decor which we just loved. We loved the different levels in the Mill and the new zip king bed was fabulous.Moya couldn't have been a better host. Such a memorable stay !Barb and Dan Toronto
