About this house rental
The Little Mill is a former threshing mill which has been converted into a beautiful open plan living space with three floors; a loft bedroom upstairs, open plan living area lined with books, artwork and antiques, and toilet in the middle floor. Downstairs has another lounge area with a wood stove, open plan kitchen and dining, bathroom with a shower and toilet and a private double bedroom. Comfortably sleeping two couples in the bedrooms, the two lounge areas (middle and lower levels) can also accommodate four more guests with pull-out beds. Pets are welcome in consultation with the owner for an additional fee (5 pounds per dog per night).
There are beaches just minutes walk away with caves, rock arches and fascinating geological formations. The stunning scenery has even captivated Hollywood film stars, with Mel Gibson's Hamlet being filmed in the adjoining fields.
Good for solo business travellers wanting space and atmosphere, a cosy getaway for couples or family travellers wanting an authentic rustic experience. Guests can enjoy beach walks, fishing, foraging, wild swimming and dolphin spotting. Minutes from Stonehaven where there are shops, places to eat out, golf links and historic Dunnottar Castle.

We had a wonderful time at The Little Mill. Moya is so very welcoming, and very generously picked us up from Stonehaven and dropped us off at the end of our trip. She was wonderful to talk to, and graciously gave us a tour within Stonehaven and around the Mill of where the bus stops we would want and where the walking trails to Dunnotar Castle, Muchall, Doonie’s Point (so very worth it - see the photos below!). The mill house itself is charming, comfortable, and well stocked with whatever you may need. We were provided with cereals, bread, crumpets, fresh fruit, milk and orange juice upon arrival. Tea, coffee, rice, pasta, some spices, and much more are in the cabinets as well. It seems many of us leave our extra pantry items for the next person (as we did ourselves, too). Well stocked with cooking utensils, cooking ware, dishes, cups, etc. We were delighted to use to woodfire oven, and spent our evenings curled up on the couch. Everything is provided for starting and maintaining the fire. For those for whom it matters, wifi/internet was fast with no dead spots within the property. We were also delighted with the geese and peacocks/peahens that freely wander the property.Truly our favourite stay in Scotland, and the perfect venue for a quiet rest and recovery or home base for activities. There’s more than enough to entertain you for days both inside and outside on the property!

Loved the property. Which we booked for more days. Felt like a home away from home.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my partner and our dog. We had an amazing time! The Mill itself is beautiful and well equipped and its surroundings are absolutely stunning. We could not recommend the place enough if you are looking for a quiet getaway (so long as you don't mind peacocks. Haha!) with lots of local walks. The host Moya was very lovely, helpful and welcoming. With lots of local knowledge. We would definitely stay again.

We just loved our stay at the Mill. Moya was the loveliest host and made sure we were looked after. She also made sure we found the place and helped us find our first dinner. The peacocks and geese greeted us each morning which was so fun.The setting was idyllic as was the accomodation. It is a unique eclectic mix of decor which we just loved. We loved the different levels in the Mill and the new zip king bed was fabulous.Moya couldn't have been a better host. Great location with easy access to stores and out door activities. Thomas was there to greet us and was more than accommodating. They have a wonderful grill down on the beach. Make sure you cook down there at least once. Our son loved it! Memories of a lifetime.

This is a fantastic property to holiday at, with the most dedicated owner, Moya, who made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. Lots of breakfast items left, high quality kitchen utensils, great beds, even wellies for the rainy days were supplied. The wood burner was also all ready to fire, with extra wood provided. The mill is decorated with a lot of taste and thought, there are books, games, music CDs- entertainment assured for any weather. The outdoor space is just fantastic- a lovely pond nearby, friendly peacocks, the private beach 5 mins away and lots of walks. Yet, good restaurants in the village nearby are at only 2 mins, a Tesco is down the road, Stoneheaven and Aberdeen equally close. Lots of castles to visit in the area and many well marked walks. This is a paradise for relaxation and the host is always at hand if you need anything, with great chat, local recommendations and a warm cup of coffee also at the ready! Thank you, Moya, we loved our stay and your hospitality and we'll definitely be back and recommend the place to our friends.

Probably the most enjoyable place to stay in all my travels.
The 'little mill' was large and comfortable with everything needed to prepare meals, a wood burning stove to warm up to, and comfortable beds. Decorated with art and antiques. The orchard and stream made it idylic for walks, amd the sea views and cliffs at the edge of the property is spectacular. Our host , Moya was delightfull. I will surely return for another visit without a doubt.

Of the three properties we stayed at, this was the most inviting and comfortable home. The property was quirky and fun, and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute there. All amenities were thoughtfully provided so that guests were not inconvenienced to go buy something forgotten. Very family oriented. The owners even left fresh bread and fruit as well as juice and milk. It was a lovely stay and the paths around the property led to the most amazing private beach with views completely unexpected.

We chose the Mill for the last leg of our 2-week journey thru Scotland and were not disappointed. Eclectic and artfully decorated, this is not your typical vrbo - well above all our expectations. Our hosts were kind enough to set out all the simple necessities to carry us through to the next day when we could get to a store - a very generous and appreciated gesture. Clean and comfortable, we had no trouble tucking in in front of the fireplace on a very rainy day. Don't miss a walk around the perimeter of the coastline and through the wooded lane; magical!

We had a wonderful couple of days in this brilliant house. We walked down to the lovely local beach and had a picnic in the sunshine, followed by some rockpooling, and snuggled down in front of a roaring wood burner in the evenings. The beds are comfy and the house had absolutely everything we needed. The owner and her son also couldn't have done more, they really welcomed us, and even allowed our daughter to help feed the peacocks and chickens, which she loved! The mill is a really special place, and we hope to return soon for longer!

This rental was well beyond what we were even hoping for. The mill itself, in addition to being perfectly anointed, is located on an accessible property featuring some of the most spectacular views in Scotland. Further, the hosts, and Thomas in particular, welcomed us with generosity and kindness. A fantastic stay!

We came here for a wonderful week in July, loved the cliffs, the birds, and the sea, our great hosts and the peaceful atmosphere. If you go to Stonehaven, a scenic little town just around the corner, you may find yourself wondering why you even bothered; we couldn't wait to get back to the peacocks and geese ;-)

We had a fantastic stay at the Little Mill - the house is in a fantastic setting and is well appointed. Thomas was a fantastic host, very friendly, inviting, and helpful. We walked down to the beach almost every night and found the location great for exploring the many castles of Aberdeenshire and for hiking in the Cairngorms National Park. Would highly recommend and hope to return here in future years.

Fantastic property, excellent host and lovely location. Treat of a small beach & hut if needed! A wee fly catcher due to being a farm would have been great. Would definitely come back

We booked the Little Mill but needed to bring the date forward at the last minute as we were due to visit a very ill friend. Moya, the owner was able to help us albeit not for the 6 days we wanted but she also helped finding us accommodation (across the road) for the extra 2 days.
Arrival was straight forward and although the approach road is unmade, it is quite something to be greeted by Peacocks strolling around. The Little Mill has secure parking through some wooden gates. The keys were readily available and entering the property is a real wow. I love the rustic look and you get a real sense being in a converted mill. There are numerous books and memorabilia that will keep you occupied for the duration of any stay and you can pick and chose where you sit from the numerous sofas and seating. We tended to use downstairs due to the log burner being there. We didn't switch the TV on at all as the ambience lends itself to just sitting and talking with old friends.
Moya left us milk, cereals, tea and coffee and various preserves/condiments but there are shops a short drive away for more supplies.
The property effectively has access to it's own beach shared with the neighboring properties and is generally not accessed by members of the public.
There is not enough room on this review sight to list everything but to say Thomas (Moyas son) went over and above is an understatement. I will leave a fuller review on trip adviser.
