Makana Akua is approximately 1,700 square feet with over 1,000 square feet of decks. Beachfront near Tunnels Beach and Tunnels Reef in Haena, it is truly a tropical rainforest. This home offers two master suites with private granite bathrooms, king beds, and individual air conditioning units. The fully equipped kitchen offers a Halogen Flat Top Range mounted on a granite island. The Kenmore Refrigerator has a water and ice dispenser.

Throughout the house you will find Authentic Chinese antiques including marriage cabinets, altar coffer, sideboard, and oriental rugs. The floors throughout Makana Akua are Brazilian Cherry Hardwood. Beautiful updated peaceful property with spectacular views. We could hear the ocean waves and feel the breeze with the large sliding glass doors open to the large lanai. The lanai is partially covered so we could even have our morning coffee outside when it was raining. Close to all the North shore beaches including tunnels beach which we saw turtles in the surf everyday on our walks. The home has modern appliances, kitchen and bathrooms and comfortable beds. ,

As every other review states, this house is amazing. Most things don't live up to the hype, but this house does. Here are some items that would have helped us with our trip. The house had beach supplies: really nice chairs, towels, a cooler, and an umbrella. The showers were stocked with body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. If you stop at the store before you drive in, don't get coffee filters. The last few families must have done the same thing we did, so there was an abundance. The kitchen also had basic spices and olive oil. I'm not sure how long they will last, but a trip to Hanalei, where the market is located, was part of our daily routine. The two master suites with king beds were a nice feature for two couples traveling together. One has an ocean view, and the other is quieter and has less light. The non-ocean view room has a nicer shower. Finally, the Sonos sound system throughout the home was a nice touch. It was nice to hear some island music during our stay. The property also has Apple TVs in each room, but we did not need them. Mahalo for sharing your beautiful home.

This house has it all. Location on one of the best strips of beach and reef around, great layout, all the amenities, and great communication from the property managers. We will be back for a third time soon!!

My wife and I stayed here for a week and absolutely loved the home and the location. The home has direct access to a beautiful sand beach. It’s about a half mile walk either on the beach or the road to tunnels for snorkeling. We visited in the middle of May, and the beach directly behind the house would not be a good swimming beach for children. It might be calmer in the summer but tunnels and Anini beach are better choices for kids. ( Anini beach has better parking than tunnels). Justin the manager was great with dealing with any issues we had. Overall the home and the general area is a great place to just relax and get away from the traffic and busyness of other parts of the island. It is about an hour drive to Lihue so you’ll need to plan any island activities accordingly.

My husband and I and our two kiddos, 8 & 10, loved our stay here! Short walk from Tunnels beach with amazing snorkeling. Be sure to check out Opakapaka restaurant for Greta fish tacos, also a short walk or drive.

We loved staying on the North Shore! Tunnels Beach is our absolute favorite place on earth! This home has an unbelievable view. We enjoyed breakfast on the lanai each morning overlooking paradise! I do think some things in the home could use a little refresh, ie. the master shower and kitchen cabinets, but that didn’t change what a wonderful stay we had. The oven wasn’t working either, but I was able to work around that with the stove and toaster available. Overall, I still give this home 5 stars because of the view, the location, the lanai, and layout of the home. The host was very responsive as well! Would love to stay again next time we visit the island.

Everything was perfect! The home was very clean. The linens were very very nice quality! The beds were very comfortable. The AC in the bedrooms was Huge! Most wonderful - the lenai. The covered table area made it perfect 100% of the time. The Sonos sound system and smart TVs are great!!! We could take the small path to the beach anytime and enjoy essentially our own private beach and snorkeling area. Sheer wonderfulness. Quiet, clean and completely relaxing. We will be back!!! Thank you!!!

Our family had the vacation of a lifetime at Makana Akua. The home has all the comforts of home with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean from almost every room in the house. While the beach is a little steep at this location, it was well protected from the high winds felt just 200 yards in either direction. The reef directly behind the house was filled with tropical fish and we spent hours snorkeling. This was the perfect home base for our Kalalau Trail and Queen’s Bath hikes, as well as trips to Hanalei. Our only complaint was that we didn’t book a longer trip!

Our family of four (two kids ages 6 and 9) had an incredible stay! Location could not be better - beachfront with your own private trail steps to the sand and a nearly private beach. We especially loved the gorgeous lanai, large grassy backyard, and ocean views from nearly every room. The house was spacious with beautiful vaulted ceilings and had everything we needed. We will definitely be back!

This house and location are just gorgeous. House is well appointed with two master suites. We stayed as a family of 4 and enjoyed being right on the beach! Remote, quiet, birds, waves and amazing sunsets. A tad dated but spacious with garden, outdoor shower, and beautiful views!

Located on the beach just south of Tunnels, beautiful view and very nice house. Perfect for a small family, has two rooms with separate bathrooms, nice living area and well appointed kitchen. Air conditioning works very well in the rooms, perfect for sleeping. BBQ could use a good cleaning but is functional. View is beautiful and deck off the living area is very nice. Overall a beautiful location, very nice house. We really enjoyed our stay and wish we could have stayed much longer!

Went to just get away for a week and this was the perfect spot. Steps from what felt like a private beach with great sunrise and sets. Some good snorkeling and Haena had some good food if you did not want to utilize the perfect kitchen. This place is worth the price.

This home is amazing! It was the perfect location for us to get away and relax. Both the bedrooms where exactly what we needed. The size of the bedrooms and bathrooms were very comfortable. We felt very much at home and like we were the only ones around! We all 4 at different times enjoyed walking the beach and enjoying coffee in the mornings and wine in the evenings, just watching the waves. While there are 3 TV’s in the house... we never used them. A/C worked wonderful in keeping us LOUISIANA people cool to sleep at night. Beds and bedding was amazingly comfortable! Met some famous neighbors too! We HIGHLY RECOMMEND booking this home.Even with the slight inconvenience of the road closure due to the mud slide just before Hanalei.... we would book here again

Makana Akua is a wonderful place to spend your well earned vacation. The home is beautifully furnished and decorated and very well stocked. You can see the ocean from the kitchen, living room, and bedroom, but you can't see into the home from the beach which makes it completely private. We walked down the beach most mornings to look for shells or snorkel at tunnels beach. There is even a shaved ice stand at the state beach that is within walking distance. The other direction down the beach is the Hanalei Colonial Resort and Mediterranean restaurant which serves delicious meals. The road in front of the house is a nice road for early morning walks or runs. It is a beautifully scenic approximately three mile windy stretch of road to the trailhead of the Napali Coast trail. Makana Akua is just far enough away from Hanalei Bay to feel remote and peaceful, but still close enough to go to the grocery store, shop, or grab a meal. It was the perfect location and home for a relaxing vacation for a family of four. We loved it!

My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary and to get away from the city life, and I can safely say this was the most relaxing and exciting trip either of us had ever done. Such a beautiful and extremely private house with sea turtles and coral reefs directly in front on our private beach. We literally snorkeled everyday and explored our surroundings (tons of attractions/sight seeing very close by) - One could imagine, we were both very sad to leave. Managed to stay away (for the most part) from tourists and hiked up to and swam in the Hanakapi'ai Falls. I would recommend this house in a heartbeat as it not only gives you a beautiful, clean space to live and feel comfortable, but experiences for you to take away and remember for the rest of your life!

What a fabulous week in an ideal location. Right on the ocean and just a short drive to everything you could possibly want. This home is perfectly suited for 2 couples to share for a week or more. The layout was ideal. The kitchen and baths were well stocked. The laundry was a nice bonus - helped us manage the multiple outfit changes. The view was perfect as was the temperature. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and wouldn't change a thing. You really need to make a visit to Kauai and to Makana Akua. We'll be back!

There is really no way to express in words or pictures how perfect this house was for our vacation. Everything was impeccable decorated and sparkling clean. Our rooms had clean fresh sheets and the bathrooms were spectacular. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to cook a meal (we cooked a lot) and the appliances were easy to use and updated. We slept well and there were security features on the sliding doors so we could enjoy the waves and still feel secure. The beach is a short walk away and the sunsets were amazing. Overall an A+++ experience and we would 100% recommend staying here.

Words cannot describe the beauty and splendor of the Makana Akua house. The house was luxurious and comfortable and very well equiped. The location was unbelievable. Sitting on the back lanai, the stunning views of the ocean with the wind surfers and kite boarders was amazing. And the sunsets!! The owners were always available and fully refunded our deposit. Our 10 days in paradise at the Makana Akua house will stay with us always. I would highly recommend this house to a friend. We will definetly return.

The oven was not working and the property management brought over a air fryer/toaster oven that worked in it's place. Kitchen cabinets could use some TLC but other than those things it was as advertised and a great home. On the right side of the home it is on a path to the beach that sees alot of foot traffic so be advised if you were looking for privacy. There are nice restaurants a few miles away and a fish market if you want to cook. Just a great relaxing stay! Mahalo!

We came as a couple and spent a portion of the week with friends who also were wowed by the comfortable home and beautiful ocean view from the back deck. We enjoyed both going out to dinner in Hanalei, but ended up cooking and eating at "home" more than we have ever done on vacation, because it was so much fun to hang out at the house. While we were visiting the weather was perfect, but the ocean was rough (all over the North Shore), so we ended up exploring and swimming at safer spots. We plan to come back in spring or summer so that we can swim right outside the house.
