The surrounding area is known for its abundant wildlife and some of the finest birdwatching on the Eastern Seaboard. Eagles, osprey, blue herons, pelicans, and countless shorebirds can be seen daily, while dolphins are often spotted swimming just offshore. Located within a designated Dark Skies area, the property also offers unforgettable stargazing and moonlit evenings.
The expansive waterside deck is ideal for alfresco dining, morning coffee, or evening cocktails overlooking the Bay. This house has everything you need, the views, privacy, space and outdoor/indoor entertainment. We especially enjoyed the sandbar that was so accessible and made us feel like we were on our on private island. The kids really loved the giant sloth, Mickey and Minnie stuffed animals.

This was my family's 4th time staying at the Sand Castle so I don't have much to add since my previous reviews. We did not notice that the listing had changed since we had booked and were sorry to see that the bunkbeds had been removed but we worked things out. Also the beach has changed quite a bit and the sand disappears completely at high tide now. This is obviously not related to VRBO or the homeowner, just something future renters may want to know. We still had a good time, we just had to be more mindful about planning our beach days.

This was a great place to stay as a family (7 adults and 4 kids)! We would definitely consider a return trip! The water access and sunsets were so good.
Communication with property manager was great.
(There has been a little remodeling in the house since the pictures were taken. I wish these were captured better in the listing, but it wasn't a deal breaker.)
Tips for prospective guests:
-Bring water shoes.
-Low tides are the best.
-We rented paddle boards and kayaks from Poseidon 45min away in Cape Charles and would recommend.
-Bring a tube float to relax in.
-No cell coverage, but house wifi worked well.
-House is well-stocked (kitchen, games, beach stuff).

The location is lovely (outstanding sunsets). The kitchen was smaller than it appeared in the pictures, but was quite serviceable for our resident chef. Some maintenance issues that we were able to work around (no working lights in the laundry room, inoperative fire place, broken/missing toilet paper holder and hot water that was excessively hot).
The house was very clean and stocked with sufficient towels, beach towels, beach chairs and kitchen items. the furnishings and decorations were very good (albeit a little too tempting for an active and curious 2 year old).
Overall, the seven of us that spent the week there enjoyed our stay immensely.
