About this cabin rental

Secluded yet accessible mountain home cradled in the Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains four miles up scenic Big Cottonwood Canyon. Cross the gated log clad bridge over Big Cottonwood Creek to enter this private sanctuary and Winter Wonderland destination. Built in the mid-1950's, this cabin showcases traditional lodge architecture along with modern features and convenience. With a spacious King bedroom, two Queen bedrooms (one with extra bunk beds), and a cozy loft, we comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests. Enjoy the private hot tub, fire pit, and stream-side deck. With great access to superb hiking and only a 10 mile drive to Solitude and Brighton Ski Resorts, this is truly a year-round mountain retreat!

Escape to our secluded yet accessible mountain sanctuary nestled in the heart of Big Cottonwood Canyon. As you cross our gated log-clad bridge over the rushing waters of Big Cottonwood Creek, you'll step into a private world of natural beauty and comfort. Enjoy our mountain cabin with its mountain water supply. Hot and cold running water meets washing and general needs, but do plan to bring bottled drinking water.

Our cabin boasts a stunning oak-beamed ceiling (with traditional mortise and tenon joinery) and a spacious deck that stretches out to the peaceful stream in the back. Whether you're savoring morning coffee or stargazing by the fire pit, you'll find tranquility in every corner.

Inside, you'll discover the open plan main floor living room with a couch and two rocking chairs, full kitchen, dining area and a full bathroom. There is also a bedroom with a luxuriously comfortable California-King-sized bed and a 16 foot tall tree hand carved decades ago by an old man named Tjokot in Bali. Upstairs there is a half bath, along with two rooms featuring Queen-sized beds, and one of them with additional bunk beds -- making it perfect for families or groups. Additionally, the charming and cozy loft space sleeps two more, providing comfortable accommodations for up to 10 guests.

Outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers will appreciate the superb hiking right from our doorstep, as well as numerous trail heads only a short drive away. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking wilderness of the area. And when it's time to hit the slopes, you're just a scenic 10 miles from both Brighton (famous, among other reasons, for night skiing) and Solitude Ski Resorts.

Whether you seek adventure or tranquil relaxation, taste the revitalizing spirit of the Old West as you enjoy the ideal blend of accessibility and seclusion year round at our cabin home in Big Cottonwood Canyon..

We absolutely loved our week stay in the “Shangri-la”, a magical place out in the middle of the Wasatch mountains, but so close to the ski resorts, great hiking and other major attractions. We skied Brighton which was only a 10 minute drive further up Big Cottonwood Canyon. Antelope Island and Salt Lake City are an easy morning or afternoon visit. Arches and Canyonlands NP are a long day trip, but well worth it. The inside was warm and cozy and easily accommodated our group of 5. We especially liked warming up by the fire and relaxing in the hot tub by the creek after skiing and hiking. Larry and Gayle (and family) own and manage the property and meticulously care for it and were very responsive and welcoming during our stay. Thanks so much for sharing your cabin in the mountains, we hope to return one day!

The property owner, Larry, was outstanding. He had accurate information and was a great communicator before and during our stay. The cabin was perfect for us. The river is 50 feet from the front door. The fireplace warmed us up each night great and the kitchen was very stocked for making meals. The trailhead to Blanche Lake (photos in this review) was a 15 min walk away.
