Casa do Campanário

The house inside the castle walls was even better than the pictures!! The owner(when we finally met up with him) gave us a tour of the house. Breakfast was left for us on the day of arrival and was intended to last for the 3 days that we stayed there. It included a loaf of homemade bread, 2 jars of jam, some sliced ham and cheese, a quart of milk, a quart of orange juice and some patties of butter and some prepackaged bread, plus coffee and tea. We stayed for 3 nights, and the bread was so good that we finished it the 2nd morning and the ham and cheese was only enough for 1 1/2 breakfasts. The ambiance and location made up for it though. The house was charming and full of antiques and memorabilia. We loved how authentic it felt. Staying in the castle town of Sortelha was the highlight of our 10 days in Portugal and this house lived up to our expectations and more!

Getting into the property was difficult- it was raining, and we couldn't contact the owner and you had to park outside the castle walls and drag our luggage around till we finally found the owner. Communication with the owner could have been better .

As fotos não demonstram a qualidade que a casa tem, casa dentro das muralhas de Sortelha, pitoresca e muito bem decorada. Ficamos surpreendidos! O anfitrião muito simpático, pequeno almoço simples mas agradável, sem duvida um belo local para servir de base para conhecer as aldeias históricas e castelos da região.

Só tem sinal de Wifi num dos quartos pois o router não está na casa, penso que o repetidor de sinal está mal colocado, é só a minha opinião e apenas um pequeno promenor que pouco influenciou a estadia.

Foi a segunda vez que ficámos na casa do campanário. Levámos os nossos filhos e agora fomos com a nossa neta. A casa é muito confortável, estava quentinha, tinha tudo para o pequeno almoço, pão fresco todos os dias. Tudo óptimo.

Experience of the traditional house and location.

there is no food available in Sortelha historic centre, and only one cafe available down in Sortelha with very limited meal choice. I wasn’t fully aware of this before going or I would have come prepared. The booking was sold as including breakfast, which was not adequate as it consisted of orange juice, milk, bread and cheese which is not good especially given the lack of available food stated above. On arrival, I was unable to phone contact the owners, and it was only with the charitable help of a non-English speaking neighbour and a translator app that the owner was contacted, and eventually appeared from his remote location. He was pleasant and as helpful as he could be without English, but it was only 6pm in the evening when the English speaking member was available to give the bad news on food.
