About this house rental
Modern mountain home located on 13 secluded acres of woods and a field. Three bedrooms are located on the ground level floor and one large bedroom with two beds on the second floor. It is a perfect home for large families with children. Antique furnishings are cleverly mixed throughout the design of the modern cabin.
Expansive covered porches wrap the house on two sides adding 850 sq.ft. of covered outdoor space lending long & short range views of the Appalachian Mountains, including Mount Mitchell (highest point east of the Mississippi River). The porches have rough cut black locust floors and posts. The porch posts were harvested from timber on the property. Salvaged eastern hemlock from the surrounding mountains was used for porch rails and roof rafters of the side porch.
Spend the mornings with a cup of coffee watching the sunrise and enjoy the evenings with colorful sunsets. Enjoy the quiet except for the occasional sound of barred owls calling to one another in the evenings or humming birds buzzing by during the day.
In the winter, cozy up to one of two hand-crafted fireplaces. The fireplaces were handcrafted using local Doggett Mountain rock.
After a long day of hiking, biking, or lake fun, relax in one of two clawfoot tubs. Sleep well on the new Casper mattresses throughout the house.
Family meals are easily prepared with the fully stocked and spacious kitchen. There are two large farm tables to enjoy family meals inside or outside on the porch.
WiFi, 4K TVs, Roku, on-demand hot water, backup whole-house generator. Close to Asheville, Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, Black Mountain, and Hendersonville.
For families traveling with small children- we have a nice selection of children’s books, toys, games, and puzzles. A pack and play (bring your bedding for it), high chair, and booster seat are available. There is also an Osprey baby hiking pack to enable your family to explore the beautiful mountains together!

Our stay here was terrific! We took a family vacation to the Ashland, NC area and stayed here for the entire week. We immediately felt welcome and comfortable at the house. The furnishings are well thought out, the entire place is very clean, and everything functioned as intended.
The view from the porch is breathtaking, especially at sunrise; and we indulged in the outdoor fireplace in the evening.
Especially nice for our three young children were the special kids nook upstairs, the drawers full of games, coloring books, and puzzles, and the myriad stuffed animals to play with :)
The owners were very responsive, welcoming, and helpful and I highly recommend this house.

This is an incredible property. The comfort and cleanliness of this home made for such an enjoyable stay with friends. The kitchen is well-stocked making meal prep easy. It is a bit out of the way and is up a windy road, but there were afternoons where we didn't leave the home and relaxed. I can't wait to return! Thank you so much!

We stayed for 4 nights and it was absolute perfection. The accommodations were very nice and it was the most well stocked kitchen, for a rental, that we’ve ever seen. The views were like a painting and the fireplaces were so nice to have on the cool nights. I honestly can’t think of one bad thing to say about this place. The roads getting to the cabin are a little daunting if you’re not used to mountain roads but in no way would that be a deterrent for a return trip. Thank you again for an amazingly awesome stay.

Our family spent a wonderful and memorable spring break at the Kalmia Knob cabin. The owners have created a perfect mountain home, beautifully designed, constructed, and decorated, with every need thought of and provided for, making for a comfortable and scenic stay in a private, gorgeous location with amazing views.The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms clean and plentiful, the kitchen well stocked and high end, the porch spacious with delightful outdoor fireplace, and the wifi fast and the smart tv full of viewing options (should you want those things). Our kids enjoyed exploring the woods and hills around the house, while my wife and I enjoyed relaxing with coffee and drinks on the porch.The house has everything you need (bring groceries, of course) and it would be a vacation in and of itself just to stay there your entire visit--we were tempted to do just that. But there are great opportunities for exploration in the surrounding areas, as well, for hiking, biking, water activities, and lots of other adventures in places like Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, DuPont State Forest, Brevard, etc., not to mention everything nearby Asheville has to offer.The hosts--Bob and Dawn--were terrific. They are very organized, accessible, and friendly. Our family hopes to rent with them, and stay at Kalmia Knob, again. It is truly a perfect mountain home!
