A big shout out to Pia, who was very nice and who not only refunded the cost of the abominable red wine but gave us a complimentary slice of cake.

Our room was closest to the communal toilet that has a very noisy, motion-activated fan with a very short on/off cycle. It was not only very irritating to use but it kept waking me up through the night until I used ear plugs. There was only one electrical outlet in our room and the WiFi didn't reach our room.

Amazing place! The staff was really great and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were really delicious.

Originally, I got quite a bit worried when the paved road simply disappeared about 10 kms before I reached the accommodation. I was on my heavy road cruiser, it was getting dark quickly and the terrain suddenly turned into a compacted dirt road with gravel and occasional big rocks that could tip send the motorbike to the ground. And the road got quite steep in some segments. This is probably fine in a standard car or on terrain (motor)bike, but it took me about 40+ minutes to make the trip and a few near-drops along the way. But oh boy, I'm glad I made the effort. Arriving quite late at night, both the locals and visitors from the farm warmly invited me over, served me few drafted beers and quickly accommodated me. Most of them spoke with rural Austrian-German accents, but I did not need to understand to have fun and experience the rawness of the remote Alpine life. At night, I slept in a shared dorm with another couple in the farm's attic, but I still had some privacy due to wooden dividers. However, most of the magic came in the morning when the farm came to life, farmers started herding the goats and cows and the valley got filled with sunshine. You can sit outside in the early sun and enjoy delicious and super authentic breakfast made right there at the farm from local animals - butter, milk, cheeses, bread, bacon, you name it. Everybody was extremely lovely and hospitable and no cell signal means you have no worries and just enjoy the time spent. In a way, I regret having to leave early the next day. One day, I'm definitely wandering back and already cannot wait to meet Klaus and others again :) Dankeschön

The location in the alps was great

Being on a mountain the road to it especially coming from Italy was more for a 4x4 than a normal family car. Not something to blame the property just be aware that google maps will not warn you.

Mountain farm Straniger Alm has a fantastic location at 1500 m, and great views of the surrounding mountains. It is as genuine as it can be, simple, rustic, quiet, secluded, off road. The hosts were accommodating, and they serve good and strong locally produced food. Restaurant was open long into the evening, breakfast was very good. Nice price. The farm can be reached from both the Austrian and Italian side of the mountains. All the access roads are off roads, but that one from Italian side of the mountains is really very exciting with a normal car.

There is no telephone signal in the mountains, so it is impossible to contact the hosts by telephone. No wi-fi. My room was above the restaurant terrace, where people smoked cigarettes even after midnight. I could not have an open window, it was very sad.
