Excellent ski holiday base, with lots of space

A nice week spoiled by unfair treatment by the rental agency

The property is facing the valley with amazing, unhindered views and bright sun throughout the day. The rooms are small but pretty well-furnished, and there are three bathrooms, though one did not have a shower curtain. The kitchen is standardly equipped, except for the microwave oven (see below) and the raclette oven, whose electrical cord was not long enough to reach the center of the dining table. Overall, we were happy with our stay until the last day...

We have stayed in dozens of rentals and never written a bad review. Here, we feel compelled to do so, for the reason below: Soon after arrival we noticed an unpleasant smell in the kitchen, which we later identified to be from the microwave in which something had clearly been burnt (there was a dark coloration on the inside back-corner). This did not bother us that much, as we did not need to use the microwave and it could be closed inside a kitchen cupboard. Upon restitution of the keys, we kindly informed the rental agency (Bruchez & Gaillard) of this issue (and the few others above) out of consideration for the next guests. Shockingly, we found through a set of subsequent phone calls/emails that they decided that we were lying - they claimed the microwave had just been replaced - and that we were responsible for the damage. A few days later, they simply charged us for the microwave. While the cost of the microwave is small compared to the hefty one-week rental, this left us with a sour taste.

Spacious chalet with a great balcony and view.

Val Dieu is a spacious chalet with a great balcony and view. As is obvious from the pictures it hasn't been fully renovated since the 70s, so it is mainly of older standard, even if good standard. So don't expect anything modern. We think it is charming - and everything works great. Well equipped kitchen too. We will definitely come back!
