Holiday Inn Express - Darmstadt by IHG

Location is good only 10 minute walk from the station. Rooms are nice and comfortable , bed and pillows were nice and the choice for breakfast was good.

My tv wouldn’t work. It kept saying no signal no matter what source it was on. Only having a single quilt on a double bed. Also at breakfast maybe put the orange juice machine elsewhere because you have to join a queue of people making coffees before you can get to the machine.

Average breakfast; a bit far from city center but right next to the train station

The hotel is close to the central station and to various buses and tram. The room was very clean and quite spacious, the quality - price ratio was good compared to other similar hotels in Darmstadt.

I had the most unpleasant experience when I arrived, and a very unprofessional incident with the employee at the reception. As I was traveling with an Erasmus scholarship, I wanted to pay upfront in order to organize my expenses for the following days. The receptionist knew these aspects, I mentioned I will pay upfront, yet she still blocked the entire sum from my card (a bit over 600 euros), saying afterwards that she cannot unblock them and arguing that this is the policy all over Germany. Of course this was not true, and her colleagues next day were extremely polite and helpful, managing to unblock the money the following day. However, the unpleasant incident stayed in my mind and will probably make me avoid Holiday Inn from now on :) Bonus - one of the worst breakfast, with little variety and food finishing fast (and barely being refilled).
