About this villa rental
Standing alone and commanding magnificent views over Souda Bay is Katerina’s. This traditionally built property is within easy walking distance of a small beach reached from the property via a private path through the vines. The house is accessed by car via a lane from Kalami.
Set between the Turkish fortress of Izeddin and the coastal road towards Kalives and Rethminon is Kalami with its beach bar/cafe and beach with a small jetty. Kalives, with its tavernas, beautiful sandy beach, shops and supermarket, is just 5 minutes drive away.
The main part of the property is the large penthouse which has two floors and extensive balconies from which to admire the sea view.
A Cretan archway partitions the spacious dining area from the living area and kitchen. (with Cretan fireplace and traditional Cretan furniture) There is a small WC with hand basin and a washing machine on this floor.
On the upper floor is a bathroom with shower and two bedrooms (one twin and one double both with air con).
Seasonal beach bar/cafe below the property and a traditional cafe 1/2 mile walk uphill.
Nearest beach 400yds, other beaches 1 mile, shops 2 miles.
Car hire is required.
The unobtrusive and charming owner, Anna, lives below the property.
Access to the Penthouse is via a flight of external stone steps.
Internal wooden staircase connects the living area to the bedrooms and bathroom.
Wall between the two bedrooms is a wooden partition wall with floor to ceiling wardrobes.
This beautiful Cretan home offers much character and is ideal for couples. Due to the nature of the architecture, we would not recommend this property to anyone with mobility issues or to young children.
**Climate crisis resilience tax:- the amount your accommodation owner will collect from you is 15 euros a night , which will be collected during or at the end of your stay**

Where do we begin? The pictures only tell part of the story! Katerina’s Penthouse has a view and setting that is breathtaking. But what sets this vacation location apart is the authentic Greek experience of homemade meals, sweets, and fresh off-the-vine foods. Anna takes care of your palate while the Mediterranean takes care of the rest. This was a DREAM vacation spot! And our hosts were nothing short of helpful! Katerina's Penthouse is a delightful place to slow down and enjoy nature. The terrace is perfect for having tea while listening to the gentle surf on the beach below, boat spotting, and losing track of time. Although the penthouse is located within minutes of a major highway and a busy port, the property itself is sheltered and very quiet. The beach is a short and easy 5-minute walk from the garden. We visited in mid April and found the water plenty warm for swimming. Inside the penthouse the rooms are spacious and well-lit, clean and tidy, yet cozy feeling with the rich wood and stone textures, traditional furniture and many soft places to land for reading a book. The garden is masterfully planted with kitchen herbs, well-tended old wisteria vines, roses, annuals, and olive and fruit trees in the groves beyond the garden. Inside and out it is obvious that Anna and Costas, the owners, have cared for the house and property with passion.Anna greeted us on our first morning with a breakfast tray including fresh eggs from her chickens and olive oil and candied grapefruit from the garden, then a basket of fresh lemons, oranges and pink grapefruit from the garden grove - juicy perfection! Over the course of our stay she and two granddaughters appeared each day to deliver homemade delicious dishes. We have never before been treated with such generous hospitality and are very grateful to Anna and her family for making us feel very much at home. Thank you!
