Thompson Apartments by Switchback Stays

Convenient and cosy apartment. Great for our needs. It was warm but we’d taken a fan so was okay. Free parking outside. Great communication from owner.

It was quite warm in the heatwave. Extra fans would be welcome. Freezer needs defrosting and in kitchen it was a bit sticky around cooker-think from cooking oil.

The apartment was clean and had all the amenities we were looking for. Clean towels and bedding. The decor was nice and we had everything we could need provided, washing up liquid (1 dishwasher tablet), shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and hand wash. There was also tea, coffee and sugar for the first morning no milk. There’s lots of shops nearby so easy to get anything you need. Lovely view from the French doors. Location was excellent for exploring cardiff, we close to some really great places. The local Victoria park was excellent for the kids. We also visited the Cardiff national museum and St Fagans museum. We had a good time at Barry island beach too which wasn’t too far by car.

There was a musty smell when you first get to the property and the entryway is a bit messy with the post falling onto the floor. luckily there was no smell in the apartment we stayed in. The apartment could do with some touch ups, the sink in the kitchen and the worktops need some attention. The freezer had too too much ice build up making it difficult to use. It’s summer and we wanted to stock up the ice lollies, one of the drawers was really hard to pull out. We managed but it wasn’t ideal. The kettle was in dire need of a descale which I did on the second night of my stay. Not something you want to do on holiday but I like my tea so a clean kettles a must. The sofa looks good but it’s one you sink into in certain places so not the most comfortable. While the mattresses were great the pillows were quite awkward and not the best.

Location is good as you can easily park on the road, also the rooms are spacious and facilities are good

Location was perfect for what we needed

Linen on the smaller second bedroom bed was dirty. Stained and full of hairs. Larger bedroom linen was fine and bed comfy although too small. Bathroom dated and tired and the shower was a lukewarm trickle. Needed more hand towels per person rather than the one in the bathroom. Think the boiler was faulty as the pressure was very low - hence the lack of decent hot water and pressure. Would be so easy to give the flag a general makeover and improve the flat massively.
