Nice stay in Chicago

Dee is a reactive host and can adapt to your requests. He is easily reachable for any help. The hostel is a bit far but well connected through public transport to downtown Chicago. The atmosphere at the hostel is nice, it's easy to meet other fellow travelers. It was nice to meet Dee and the other people here.

The only thing which I found difficult is the phonic isolation, as there is no door between the room and the common space one floor below, but overall the quiet times were respected and people complying with it.

Amazing stay felt like home, great hosts

The home is very lovely. Jessie and Dee makes sure we are comfortable at all times and that the house is always spotless at all times. They make you feel welcome and part of the family without invading your privacy. This place truly feels like home. It is close to campus, places to eat, and very convenient if you go to UChicago because it’s very close to shuttle stops and it’s in the range of the RideShare app.

It got cold at times but they provided us with a space heater and extra blanket.

The room was pretty clean and comfy. The common areas (kitchen, bathroom, dining room) were always clean as well. The location is relatively close to the loop (30 minutes) and you can get to the red line in a few minutes. Dee has great energy and is always there to help you :) Thanks so much for sharing this amazing place!

Not the best, not the worst.

The use of the kitcheb-it was close to a market area and subway-it was cheap-people were friendly-internet speed was good!

The beds smell and look old. I know there is a guy who clean them every day but they were like old roid mattresses. The Sheets were cheap. Nobody really advised me about any beach or any real good restaurant or anything. I had to discover everything by myself

Good for the price

Nice place spotless, cozy, and great for the price. Dee was such an amazing person and host always attentive. The place is close to a subway station on the red line, a bus stop, and a Dunkin’ Donuts.

The only downside might be the neighborhood. There’s not much privacy in the room

We did not stay. Too weird for us, and in a bad neighborhood.

This was a very weird and off-putting experience. I understood that we were booking a room within a house, but the day of our stay, we were told we were not staying at the house we had booked, but at a second house a block or two away. We also had to verify our booking with the "host" via text message. I was not even made aware there was a second location until after we had verified the booking on the afternoon of the stay. The communication throughout was very confusing and inconsistent.

Peaceful and needed :)

The property was well furnished, had everything I needed to cook and be accommodated, and looked cozy and lovely as well :) Dee in particular was incredibly accommodating. It’s hard to imagine why anyone would want to stay at an overpriced hostel uptown when they could stay here and have such a peaceful experience. Thank you Dee and Jessie!

Great Stay – Comfortable, and Welcoming!

The only minor reason I didn’t give a full 10/10 was that the property has no locker for your valuable items (passport, laptop..etc). Nothing major.

I had a really pleasant stay at this booking. The shared room was exactly as described—cozy, and well-equipped with everything I needed for a short trip. The bed was comfortable, and I appreciated the nice desk area which was perfect for getting a bit of work done. The host jessie was very welcoming and respectful of privacy, yet available when I had questions. Check-in was little complicated and communication was excellent throughout. The shared spaces (bathroom, kitchen, etc.) were always tidy and well-maintained. Overall, I’d definitely recommend this place and would be happy to stay again!

If someone has a very strict time schedule, I will not recommend this place.

I did breakfast at my conference place. Location was kind of okay.

The room was rescheduled to another place in the last hours. The address was confused as the owner did not send a clear address. I found it hard to reach out there. During 4 night stays, I found the owner have three dogs every time in the living area. Everytime, I have to call before entering the home. It was hard to reach out the owner. One time, I have to wait 35 minutes outside, then someone came and managed the dogs. On day of arrival that is the most critical day, the dogs were around in the hallway playing and biting bones, I made around 10 phone calls. Then I heard sound of owner, I sounds then the owner said give me 5 minutes.

Thoughtful and helpful host

The host (Jessie) was very friendly and helpful. 2 days before I arrived, I requested to drop my luggage in the early morning around 8:30am. The host actually prepared the room and waited for me to arrive. The host responded to my messages within a few hours. On the check out day, I requested to leave my luggage at the premises as I wanted to have a tour in the city. She changed the access code so I can enter the premises before 10pm instead of 11am. Actually, I collected my luggage after lunch although she thought that I might spend the whole day in the city. she was thoughtful.

Great place for the price!

Staff was great and always responded quickly. Location is great too imo, very close to a ton of shops and restaurants and of course easy access to public transportation. I had a good stay!

The only thing that was less than stellar was sleeping in the same room with the other guests, but that is what it is, some of the other guests were a little inconsiderate.

Stay far away

Not one thing.

First, the property is in an industrial area of south Chicago. The outside of the property was unkempt. The lawn was 10" high. There is junk in the yard. I texted 45 minutes prior to my arrival (at 3pm). I recieved a reply at about 3:40 stating check in is not until 5pm. Not a usual check in time. So I texted at 3:45 stating I had arrived. Waited out front for 10 mins, no reply. So, I went to the door where I was greeted by a rude young man. I told my story and asked if I could check in early. He said yes, as long as I gave a good review on google and on booking.com. I chuckled and said I would be happy to, but not until after my stay. He said no, either I give review now or I had to wait. But if I gave the review I could come in early. I said "Wow, very unethical. How about I just cancel." He went inside and a woman came to the porch. She introduced herself as curator. So I asked if she minded if I came in early. She reiterated that I had to give review first. So I asked her to please just cancel my reservation and I will drive back to Detroit. She said fine and she would refund me my money. At this point, the young man came out again in a violent manor, trying to intimidate me. I felt threatened and retreated to my vehicle. He followed. I thought I was going to have to defend myself. Don't stay here. I would not trust the neighborhood with a nice vehicle. Stay away. I have not recieved my refund as of yet. I was supposed to have my money by now.
